Nowadays, everyone is looking at a screen either as part of their work or during their downtime, and that can be straining for the eyes. That’s where a company like Gunnar Optiks comes in, protecting your peepers while maintaining a certain level of style, especially for gamers. As part of CES 2025, the company unveiled their latest line of gaming glasses, and there’s plenty to get excited about.
First is the Clear Pro tint option for the new mineral glass lenses for the 2025 collection. This option will help those who have to edit photos and videos or are in graphic design. That means excellent scratch resistance, haze-free, and has a high ABBE value of 59 out of 60. For the uninitiated, the ABBE value is the degree to which light is dispersed or separated when passing through a lens. The higher the value, the better the peripheral optics will be, giving the user the best vision possible.
Then there are the amber Sun-Shift lenses, which get you ready for time out in the sun in just about 15 seconds and then back to amber within 15 to 20 minutes. This same pair of lenses makes it easy for users to work on their computer screens, to the screens on their car, get outdoors, and then go back to work with minimal disruption. The non-polarised nature also means you are seeing things as they should be on electronic displays.
Loop
When it comes to durability and flexibility, the new Loop frames are probably what you should be looking at in 2025. With a 180-degree hinge, it will not only fit most faces comfortably, but the likelihood of the frames breaking is minimised at the same time. The round frame and amber tint complete the entire package.
Viscer
Think high coverage, single lens, sports frame; the Viscer looks more like the glasses folks use when skiing, but it’s made for competitive esports with a broad, uninterrupted field of view, while minimising air currents and trapping humidity. This helps to keep eyes as moist as possible while competing.
“This is the first time a single lens has been engineered with our proprietary Gunnar technology. So you’ll get that point to dioptic focusing power that’ll help relax your eye muscles, as well as the proprietary lens tint that is specifically engineered to filter out the spikes of energy that come off your computer screen,” shared Mike Volpe, director of marketing at Gunnar Optiks.
Dume
For those looking to channel your inner Tony Stark, even with Gunnar no longer working in partnership with Marvel, you can still make that look work with the new Dume glasses. Part of the Quantum Collection, the Dume has a gold application, and a side shield that isn’t just for show.
“What we’ve done with our side shield is essentially enabling us to block some air currents from getting in behind your eye, as well as trying to retain as much moisture in your ocular socket between blanks,” said Volpe.
The Dume will also be the first time Amber Max lenses are available with several new styles. What it does is essentially help users get ready for sleep. Removing 98% of blue light will still allow you to do everything you would normally do, but now, you know that your melatonin production is not being affected.
Venture
For us, the standout product has to be the Venture, which features cutting-edge electro-chromatic lens technology. A tap is all that is needed to instantly darken or lighten the tint style required for your current activity, giving you complete control over the tinting required.
“The way that we’re accomplishing this is there’s a small battery built into the temple, which allows you to charge via the proprietary charging point on the temple tip, and there is a small LCD screen sandwiched between our lenses. What this allows is a small volt, about three volts, to be transferred to the lens, to dial in the setting, or opening and closing the gates,” explained Volpe.
Taking just two hours to charge and with a long battery life of about two weeks to boot, Gunnar Optiks is looking to launch the Venture sometime in 2025 at a price of US$250.
Kista & Luma
The team at Gunnar also recognised that there are more and more female users for their glasses, and to that end, the Kista collection is getting more additions with the Erika, Eileen, Ingrid, and Sophia, with everything available by the end of April at just US$65. The various construction and designs will sure to appeal to a wide range of users, and that’s always a good thing.
The Luma collection is also getting more additions with the Fremont and Campbell glasses. Both feature a stainless steel front glass design with an acetate tip, with a square frame for the former and a round shape for the latter. They come with the Clear Pro tint lenses, and are designed for creative professionals and people who are interested in having much more robust styling.
Monterey & Pinnacles
For those who have struggled with traditional frame sizes, fret not, as Gunnar Optiks will be pushing out the Monterey and Pinnacles frames, which come in king-size for larger heads.
The former will be an all-titanium construction with flexible spring hinges, and is both lightweight and very durable. For the latter, it is wide fitting with flexible spring hinges and comes with both amber and Clear Pro tint. As for the look, the Pinnacles consist of layered aluminium magnesium with a stainless steel core.
Gunnar Optiks Partnerships
Another big focus for Gunnar Optiks is their partnership tie-ups with other companies, and 2025 will be no different.
Activision Blizzard
Three different collaborations will be happening for the year, so fans of Call of Duty, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft can prepare themselves.
“They’ll both come in our sun and amber tint. But what’s really fun about them is you get this very, very wide temple with the opportunity to have Reaper’s logo right on the temple tip, but you can see they are very, very thin temples. What that allows us to do is, when you’re wearing the glasses and you put on your headset, all of that energy that sits on your temples gets redirected to the back of the glasses instead of being pressed into your skull, so you get a much longer, much more comfortable fit as you’re playing your video games,” said Volpe about the Reaper glasses.
For those seeking some love for Sylvannas and World of Warcraft, the upcoming collaboration will see a Pantone frame featuring familiar motifs from the character, and the iconic colours that make her pop. This will be followed up by the Call of Duty glasses, Ghost, which will come in an Aviator frame.
Tokidoki
Gunnar Optiks is Galso working with tokidoki to push out even more choices for fashion-forward users.
“Mozzarella is the first of our 2025 Spring collection. He’s a very fun character. He is head of the Moofia, and we want these glasses to be very wearable,” Volpe added. The Mozzarella will be followed up by Digital Princess and Crystal Kingdom.
Plenty of design touches have been added, both subtle and obvious, and will be right at home if you are looking to add something more to your ensemble for the day.
That sums up just about everything shown off by Gunnar Optiks at CES 2025, and it is exciting to see just what else the company can come up with in the world of performance technology mixed in with fashion and design. Be sure to check out the official website for more information.
