One of the pleasant surprises at the latest PlayStation State of Play was the reveal of Eclipse Glow Games‘ Tides of Annihilation. With stunning visuals and an interesting setup with Gwendolyn and the Knights of the Round Table, the only thing lacking from the show was a proper gameplay showcase. Now, that has been remedied.
In collaboration with IGN, an 11-minute gameplay showcase of Tides of Annihilation has been unveiled. While this footage comes from an early stage of development, it already provides a glimpse into the visual quality of the in-game engine that this action game is built on.
While the main character will be Gwendolyn, her power is augmented by the ability to summon spectral knights to do her bidding. Each brings different capabilities and combos to the table, and it appears that players can bring three of them at a time. Flashy attacks and combos will likely be plentiful with such a setup. The showcase also introduces Niniane, who can transform into various forms, ranging from a bird to Gwendolyn’s primary weapon.
It’s not just the combat side of things that will make use of the heroine and her companions. There will be puzzle and exploration portions of the game that will require more specialised approaches, so the more knights you have at your disposal, the better it will be.
Before closing with an epic montage at the end, the gameplay demo also highlights an intense boss fight against Mordred, who appears to have multiple phases, each accompanied by arena transformations. Gwendolyn is seen actively switching between knights and exploiting windows to attack, all while dodging enemy moves in real-time. The action is also set against a soundtrack that seems perfect for this section and hopefully extends to the rest of the game.
Tides of Annihilation is set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but there is no confirmed release date yet.
