Marvel’s expansion into the gaming industry has been a slow but steady process, gradually finding a more refined cadence in the hands of competent developers. While past failures, such as Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers, have left a mark, other superhero franchise-based games have demonstrated success. As for future projects, Skydance Interactive’s Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra currently stands out as one of the most highly anticipated titles.
One of the strongest reasons for the excitement surrounding this game is the involvement of Amy Hennig in the storytelling, together with the developers over at Skydance. The game’s setup, which features Steve Rogers AKA Captain America) collaborating with Azzuri, the Black Panther and king of Wakanda, offers immense potential for a solid action-packed experience. This excitement was further amplified by the release of an impressive cinematic teaser trailer.
However, it has been a while since we last heard anything about the game, which has led to some worry about Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Thankfully, a recent sharing by Azzuri’s voice action, Khary Payton, has brought good news.
In a brief statement to The Direct during the MultiCon event in Los Angeles, Payton revealed that the development of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is still ongoing. As of now, the game is still scheduled for a 2025 release, with a targeted holiday season launch — specifically around Christmas. He also expressed his excitement about the project’s progress,
Skydance and publisher Plaion have yet to comment on this latest information, neither confirming nor denying it. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and, of course, PC. Whether it will do so come the holidays this year remains to be seen, but that will be the hope of many looking forward to more superhero gaming goodness.
