Monolith’s Wonder Woman Game Faces Peril According to New Report

For those who are familiar with the Warner Bros. Games‘ division, there has been quite some uncertainty despite the number of popular franchises and IPs under its umbrella. The sole notable success in recent memory is that of Hogwarts Legacy, with the likes of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and MultiVersus getting the chop instead. Now, the Wonder Woman game led by Monolith Productions is reportedly in trouble as well.

Revealed three years ago to much excitement, the studio that gave us the excellent Nemesis System definitely has the chops to deliver a great experience. However, there have not been any updates about the game, which is always concerning. It wouldn’t be far off to consider the game facing some sort of development issues, and as reported by Bloomberg, it seems that is very much the case.

“A video game based on Wonder Woman, has struggled to coalesce, according to people familiar with the project,” Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier shared. “Early last year, it was rebooted and switched directors. The game has already cost more than $100 million, said the people who asked not to be identified discussing nonpublic information, and is still years away from release, if it ever makes it to market.”

The game was supposed to build on the Nemesis System in some form, where the titular heroine could become allies with her enemies. However, the idea was later abandoned for a “more traditional action-adventure game.” Losing a unique feature is never a good sign, and especially so if it is reverting to genre norms.

Schreier has attributed the poor state of affairs to the chaotic and incohesive leadership of David Haddad. Considered an executive who does not spend much time playing games and often makes slow decisions, Haddad is also said to chase trends, leading to wasted development time on various projects.

The hope is that a new direction will keep the Wonder Woman project alive, eventually turning it into a success for both studio and publisher. Warner Bros. Games can definitely do with a win at some stage.
