More Departures Confirmed at Platinum Games, Including Metal Gear Rising & Astral Chain Directors

It seems like Platinum Games is undergoing some big changes behind the scenes. Just after reports surfaced about the potential cancellation of Project G.G., it seems that other veterans behind some of the studio’s most significant titles have also taken their leave.

The reveal comes via Hideki Kamiya, who has been a vital part of the team back when he was with Platinum Games. Having left to establish his own studio, CLOVERS, the beloved developer also revealed that many others have taken the same decision.

In a video on his personal YouTube channel, Kamiya confirmed the likes of Abebe Tinari — director of Bayonetta Origins; Yusuke Miyata — director of Bayonetta 3; Takahisa Taura — director of Astral Chain; Kenji Saito — director of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and Masaki Yamanaka — character designer for Anarchy Reigns, have all left the studio.

As for the reasons behind their departures, Kamiya did not elaborate, but it could be that they were feeling the same as the famed creator. In an interview with VGC to talk about CLOVERS, Kamiya explained:

“If I was satisfied at Platinum, then I wouldn’t have left. There’s a way I believe games should be made: a philosophy, a mindset of how games should be made. Koyama approached me, and we shared the same mindset and philosophy about game development.”

For now, Platinum Games has not yet issued any official comment regarding this situation. However, it is never good to see so much talent leaving a studio, especially one as iconic as Platinum. With development of the new Ninja Gaiden 4 in progress, steady hands are certainly needed.

Perhaps this will afford promising developers the space to step into the vacuum left behind by the seasoned creators, and we can only wait and see just what the aftermath would be like for Platinum Games.
