Ps Vita Classic Returns As Freedom Wars Remastered Arrives January 2025

For owners of the portable console that was the PlayStation Vita, one of the standout experiences was enjoying the original Freedom Wars. As a prisoner facing an extreme number of years behind bars, only by completing dangerous missions can your sentence be reduced. It was an entertaining action roleplaying experience, and modern players will soon be able to jump in again with Freedom Wars Remastered.

As announced by Bandai Namco and Dimps, the cult classic is undergoing a transformation for modern audiences, as Freedom Wars Remastered will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on January 9, followed by a January 10 release for PC.

In the distant future, humanity is in a struggle to survive. Pollution has devastated the planet, and the remnants of humanity are divided amongst city-sized prisons called Panopticons. So scarce are resources that living itself is a crime and those born are immediately given a million years of prison time. Dubbed Sinners, the only option other than awaiting death in prison is to fight for freedom with allies for resources, to rescue citizens from abduction by rival enemies, or take up arms against other enemy Sinners.

Freedom Wars Remastered will bring enhanced 4K visuals, upgraded textures, and deliver smooth 60 FPS performance on both PlayStation and PC. Sinners can also utilise the overhauled weapon crafting systems and other gameplay tweaks to their advantage, especially when engaging in 4-player online co-op or alongside AI-controlled NPCs.

Here are the key features outlined by Dimps:

  • Deep Character Customisation – Create a unique look that reflects your style with a vast array of options, from facial features to clothing and accessories. Tailor your weapon loadouts and gear to suit your gameplay preferences. Stand out in the fight for freedom!
  • Elevated Experience – Freedom Wars Remastered brings enhancements such as 4K resolution, upgraded textures, and 60 frames per second performance on PlayStation and PC, an overhauled weapon crafting system and other game play upgrades, as well as adding difficulty settings. Improved graphics bring environments and characters to life, while refined controls ensure more responsive and intuitive gameplay.
  • Exhilarating Cooperative Battles – Join forces with up to seven players in Freedom Wars‘ cooperative mode. Work together to rescue citizens and take down massive Abductors in fast-paced, action-packed missions. With dynamic teamwork and strategy, you’ll face ever-evolving challenges that demand skill, coordination, and quick thinking.

“We’ve wanted to make a sequel ever since the game was released 10 years ago, but the opportunity never came up. This time, we were fortunate enough to have an opportunity, and with Bandai Namco Entertainment producing while we develop, and with it being the 10th anniversary, the timing was right to do something,” shared Takashi Tsukamoto, director of the original Freedom Wars at Dimps and development producer of Freedom Wars Remastered.
