The installation process by the Prism+ team was highly professional, with precise measurements and inquiries about the placement of the Scout Doorbell, ensuring a clear view of the front door. The Onyx Black finish and compact 55 × 33 × 152 mm frame keep it discreet, while the 0.4 kg build feels solid and robust, with the design blending effortlessly into most front door setups. Combine it with the smart locks that the company stocks as well, and you can easily see who’s visiting and let them in if you wish.
Wide, Clear, and Always On
Getting it up and running was easy as well, even without the professional help. Once the Prism+ Scout Doorbell is connected to the Prism+ Connect app, you’ll have all the settings you’ll need to ensure full coverage when you are not at home.
Equipped with a 1080p Full HD camera and an expansive 170° field of view, daytime footage is bright and crisp, while infrared night vision keeps the entrance visible in low light. While you can set it up to record continuously, the option to utilise the built-in PIR human body sensor is actually a much better way to go about using the device.
Real-time movement caught in its view will be reflected in push notifications sent to your phone, alerting you to visitors, deliveries, or suspicious individuals. The only issue is that such messages can be delayed even with strong Wi-Fi connections through 2.4GHz or 5GHz, so unless someone is hanging about, you might not catch them on the live feed.
Thankfully, the event recording allows playback for users looking for a moment captured, with a scrollable timeline that you can navigate to find what you are looking for. The UI isn’t perfect, and it will again take some time to load up, but it suffices for most needs. The included 32GB microSD card is more than enough for most households, and you can always use up to 128GB if the need arises.
When you are home, the included wireless ringer requires just a USB-A connection for power and features adjustable volume and melodies to ensure you don’t miss essential visitors, even if your phone is not with you. If you’re not around, the two-way talk feature allows you to communicate directly. Just be patient with the load time again.
Since its installation, I have not needed to charge the device at all, with the Prism+ Scout Doorbell still going strong at 50%. With a 9200mAh rechargeable battery promising up to 9 months of battery life, this seems to be the case based on typical usage patterns in the country. If you’d rather not deal with a low-battery warning, removal of the doorbell is easily done using the included tool, and you can juice it using USB-C power in no time.
