Ride the Tempest As New Class Joins Diablo Immortal

Slaying demons will never be easy, but it certainly helps when you have the power of the elements. Diablo Immortal is welcoming the Tempest to the fold this coming May 23, with this being the eighth class for the mobile action role-playing game.

To give players a better understanding of what to expect with the new addition, Blizzard has helpfully dropped a class overview, diving deep into what makes the Tempest click in Diablo Immortal.

Tempests are sacred defenders, using elements and edged weapons to defeat the dark forces that oppose them. Hailing from the Cold Isles in the North, those who dare stray from their homeland are pariahs—their calling is to use their talents to protect the lives of mainlanders at all costs. Tempests utilize Edges, wind and water blades of immense power that harness the elements of air and water, as well as conjure Zephyrs, temporary shades that mirror movements to distract and taunt enemies, leaving their foes open for the kill.

Choosing this class means preparing yourself for a highly mobile class that utilises a combination of quick melee attacks, ranged knife-tipped whips that channel wind and water, AOE attacks and using projected Zephyrs.

Wind Edge delivers quick slashes at enemies, and closes the gap by rushing if an enemy is out of range. This can be combined with the ultimate skill of Piercing Gale, which enhances Wind Edge temporarily, allowing you to charge forward and slice through enemies, dealing damage. You also gain a shield that absorbs damage.

For AoE damage, Wave Edge plays the part by creating water whips that allow you to unleash a series of sweeping attacks, dealing damage to your primary target and nearby enemies. Using the ultimate, Power of the Deeps, enhances Wave Edge temporarily, increasing your range and allowing you to attack enemies all around you, dealing damage. A shield is also bestowed upon the Tempest.

As a passive skill unique to the Tempest in Diablo Immortal, summoned Zephyrs will fight alongside the player, mirroring the class abilities and acting on a cooldown, expanding the versatility of the new addition. Once a Zephyr dissipates, players can collect the Mist-Touched Orb to reduce the cooldown, whereas an ally who collects the orb will conjure a Zephyr of their own. At any given time, the Tempest can control up to three Zephyrs.

The arrival of this new class also heralds the coming of new class-specific Legendary Items, and you can check out the full list over at the blog post.

New Paragon System

Another key change is that the Paragon System has been simplified, making it easier to understand and more flexible to players’ ideal fantasies. Players will retain all of their progress made on the Paragons so far, and can now choose any combination of 15 skills per Paragon tree, of which there are five.

“Our goal is to increase versatility and choice, while streamlining the system overall to make it easier to combine and collect skills that will suit your various playstyles,” said the team. “What you gain is far more flexibility to equip and combine different abilities, granting greater build diversity and versatility.”

The five new trees are:

  • Vanquisher (Includes: Vanquisher, Treasure Hunter, Massacre)
  • Survivor (Includes: Survivor, Mastermind, Apothecary)
  • Gladiator (Includes: Gladiator, Soldier, Champion)
  • Brawler (Includes Brawler, Warden, Executioner)
  • Slinger (Includes Duelist, Weaver, Ranger)

Furthermore, all Persistent Attributes from the previous system can now be unlocked and redistributed in the new system. Unlocking a Paragon skill, even if not active, will grant you the additive bonuses that Persistent Attributes once gave. All of the stat benefits that were within Persistent Attributes will be granted across all the new Paragon skills as well.
