Riot Games Summons Linkin Park for 2024 league of Legends world Championship Anthem

For those into esports and the MOBA scene, the upcoming 2024 League of Legends World Championship is certainly on your radar already. Taking place from September 23 to November 2, the annual tournament will bring together all the best teams and players globally for a lucrative showdown. To add to the allure, Riot Games has also partnered up with acclaimed band Linkin Park for this year’s anthem, Heavy is The Crown.

The League of Legends World Championship, also known as Worlds, is the pinnacle of LoL Esports competition in which the top teams from nine regions compete for the world champion title. Held after the culmination of the regular season in a different host region each year, qualified teams from professional leagues around the world participate in the tournament, which stretches across three months. Worlds is the most widely viewed and followed esports tournament, and the 2023 Worlds Finals became the most-watched esports event of all time.

The music video for Heavy Is The Crown can be watched on YouTube or streamed on major music platforms starting September 24 at 8AM PT/11AM ET/11PM SGT.

Heavy Is The Crown is a monumental collaboration for the band with the gaming industry. It’s been an amazing experience partnering with Riot to bring this anthem to the global League of Legends community,” said Mike Shinoda. “The song is a real highlight of this new era for us, harnessing our signature sound and infusing it with fresh energy. We’re so excited for players and fans to experience this!”

“The Worlds anthem is the music moment that League players look forward to the most each year, and it has become a highly coveted fixture in music across the world,” added Maria Egan, global head of music at Riot Games. “As the band embarks on this exciting new chapter, we’re honored to partner with them for the 2024 anthem. The lyrics for Heavy Is The Crown perfectly capture the narrative for this year’s Worlds and they are a powerful companion to the themes of our music video.”

Heavy Is The Crown follows Linkin Park’s number one single The Emptiness Machine, which marked their first brand new music in seven years. The song exploded to the top of the charts, tallying over 80 million streams as the band launched straight into a 6-date arena tour. Their 8th studio album From Zero will release this November 15.
