Summer Game Fest Batman Arkham Shadow Combines Immersive Storytelling and Hard-hitting Action

When it comes to gaming, especially in a post-E3 world, the Summer Game Fest period is one that many will look forward to. In the crimefighting world, the very idea of Batman is what comes to mind when we are talking about the best, and in a new story trailer for Batman: Arkham Shadow, we finally know what Camouflaj and Oculus Studios have been working on.

It’s the Fourth of July, and Gotham City is besieged by a new threat: the mysterious Rat King and his cultish devotees. Public officials have been abducted, including Batman associates Commissioner Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent. The Rats have pledged to execute them in one week’s time for “crimes committed against the people of Gotham City.”

That obviously won’t stand with Batman prowling the rooftops. The hero, voiced by Roger Craig Smith, tries to stop the Day of Wrath, but it all goes wrong. Set between the events of Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum, players will get to experience the origins of iconic characters as The Scarecrow, Harley Quinn, and more, as Batman grapples with the contradiction at the core of his identity—the use of force in pursuit of peace.

Batman: Arkham Shadow pushes Meta Quest 3 to its limits, immersing players in a full-fledged, story-driven campaign. Use Batman’s Grapnel Gun to traverse a richly detailed depiction of Gotham City, and then grab hold of your cape to silently glide down behind unsuspecting enemies. Once the action starts, enter the fray using a built-for-VR evolution of Arkham’s iconic freeform combat. Get up close and personal as you deliver devastating punches, deflect incoming attacks, dodge, and unleash brutal takedowns.

For more of that Arkham DNA, Camouflaj is making sure that the entire experience has been recreated for VR. Perch on a vantage point, or string enemies up from one. Throw a Batarang to keep a combo going or slip out of sight using a Smoke Bomb. Scour crime scenes for clues, solve puzzles, uncover hidden collectibles, and explore iconic locations such as the Monarch Theatre and Bowery from an all-new perspective.

Batman: Arkham Shadow will arrive on Meta Quest 3 later this year.
