At CES 2026, ASUS officially marked the transition of WiFi 8 from theory to real-world application. The company unveiled the ROG NeoCore, a concept router designed for next-generation wireless connectivity, alongside what it claims is the world’s first real-world WiFi 8 throughput test.

The announcement positions ASUS at the forefront of the next evolution of WiFi, with its first consumer WiFi 8 home routers and mesh systems planned for release in 2026. Rather than chasing raw peak speeds, ASUS is framing WiFi 8 as a fundamental shift toward ultra-stable, low-latency connectivity built for AI-driven ecosystems.

What Makes WiFi 8 Different

According to the tech company, WiFi 8 focuses on reliability, responsiveness, and intelligent device coordination rather than headline bandwidth numbers. Real-world testing conducted by ASUS shows meaningful gains over WiFi 7, including up to twice the mid-range throughput, significantly wider IoT coverage, and up to six times lower P99 latency through smarter multi-AP and multi-client operation.

This approach directly targets modern usage scenarios where dozens of devices compete for bandwidth simultaneously, from smart home systems and AI assistants to cloud streaming and online gaming. WiFi 8 routers are designed to maintain stable connections even in dense apartment environments where signal interference from neighbouring networks is common.

The ROG NeoCore concept router embodies ASUS’ “Smarter Spectrum, Better Experience” philosophy, powered by proprietary AiMesh technology and the ASUS AI Network Engine. While the NeoCore itself is a concept device, it signals the design direction for ASUS’ upcoming WiFi 8 product lineup.

ASUS has previously established itself as an early mover with WiFi 6, WiFi 6E, and WiFi 7 hardware, often securing FCC certification ahead of competitors.
