Time to Save as Analyst Predicts GTA VI to be First US$100 Game

There is nothing quite like the Grand Theft Auto franchise in gaming. Even though the upcoming entry in the beloved series is only the sixth game, the amount of profits, discussion, and, frankly, hype, are always up there with the best the industry can offer. And in the case of GTA VI, it all stems from just a trailer released by Rockstar Games. That kind of power can allow the studio to do lots of things, including what analysts believe would be the first US$100 game.

At least, this is the opinion of Matthew Ball, an analyst from Epyllion. In his analysis of the gaming industry for 2025, Ball believes that GTA VI could become the first game to be sold at that high price point, a consequence of the popularity of the franchise and the anticipation of a gaming world looking forward to it with bated breath.

Ball is also confident that GTA VI will still sell like hotcakes despite this high price. Looking at the track record of Rockstar and its titles, this is likely to be the case. And if the studio decides to support the game like it is doing for GTA V, we are looking at more than a decade for sales numbers to continually climb up.

While that spells good news for Rockstar, the bad news is that this might encourage other publishers to adopt the same pricing strategy. As the price of developing games climbs, the opportunity to recover the costs from the consumer will become more tempting, even if that’s not something players would want.

Of course, what Ball has shared remains purely conjecture and analysis based on current information. It could happen, and or not, but either way, it shows the influence that Rockstar and GTA VI have on the gaming industry and by extension, the players themselves.

A release date for GTA VI has not been announced just yet, let alone the pricing, so for now, it’s fingers crossed as 2025 kicks off.
