The breakout success of Poncle‘s Vampire Survivors has been staggering over the last few years, and it is clear that Konami‘s Castlevania games heavily inspired it. That only makes the latest announcement one to savour, as the roguelike shoot ’em up come full circle with its latest DLC, Ode to Castlevania.
As the name suggests, the DLC expansion will bring a historical lineup of Castlevania characters, weapons, music, and even a gigantic stage into the mix, all with the blessing of Konami. Expect to fight against the hordes of darkness with Simon, Richter, Trevor, and Sonia, as well as the Belnades like Sypha, Yoko, and even the likes of Charlotte Aulin and Maria Renard. The real fun lies in the 40+ weapons that will be added, with new evolutions to look forward to as well.
And you can enjoy the full majesty of Ode to Castlevania on the biggest stage ever added to Vampire Survivors. As developer Luca Galante shared, “The new stage is our biggest one yet and features a lot of different biomes. You’ll notice new special icons on the map that will help you in navigating the stage.” That’s not ominous at all.
As for the significance of this DLC, its gravity is not lost on Galante.
“Vampire Survivors would have been a very different game hadn’t it been influenced by Castlevania in the first place, so this is straight up the definition of a dream coming true,” Galante explained. “This is not a standard DLC pack. This is a celebration of this historical game series, an incredible, full-circle moment in which we have invested all the energy we could muster and then some!”
All of that undead magic will come at a price, but it is a pleasant surprise. The Ode to Castlevania DLC for Vampire Survivors will be released on October 31 and only costs US$4. It will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, Android, and iOS.
