Getting free games is always a thrill, and for PC players looking for their next 4X fix, there is some truly exciting news. From May 16 to 23, Amplitude Studios‘ Endless Legend will be 100% free to keep on Steam for both Mac and PC players.
This comes after the studio attempted the same act of generosity on their own community platform, Games2Gether, where 500,000 keys were claimed within 72 hours. Due to this outstanding response, for a limited time only, Amplitude will be offering the game for free on Steam.
For those unfamiliar, the 2014 title is a turn-based 4X fantasy strategy game in which players incarnate one of eight asymmetrical factions and control every aspect of their civilization as they fight to save the dying homeworld of Auriga from the eternal freeze. The 4X means that you will be doing plenty of exploring, expanding, exploiting, and exterminating as you seek to establish a foothold and take control over others who stand in your way.
“Another sunrise, another day of toil. Food must be grown, industries built, science and magic advanced, and wealth collected. Urgency drives these simple efforts, however, for your planet holds a history of unexplained apocalypse, and the winter you just survived was the worst on record. A fact that has also been true for the previous five,” reads the game’s description.
“As you discover the lost secrets of your world and the mysteries of the legends and ruins that exist as much in reality as in rumor, you will come to see that you are not alone. Other peoples also struggle to survive, to grow, and perhaps even to conquer.”
There is no doubt that games like Endless Legend are a huge undertaking, especially for those dipping their toes into the 4X waters for the first time. However, considering that the game usually goes for S$26.00 and can now be gotten for free, you will have even more reasons to try it out to see whether it will stick. Each playthrough of the game will be different due to various factors, and the choice of your faction will also spice things up.
