Netflix Takes Leap of Faith on Live-Action Assassin’s Creed Series

Netflix has officially begun production on the live-action Assassin's Creed series, with a release date that remains unknown.

It’s no secret that Netflix has long identified gamers as a major audience worth targeting. With the success of several video game adaptations under its belt, including Castlevania and Arcane, the streaming giant continues to invest heavily in gaming IPs. The latest franchise to join Netflix’s growing roster of video game-based content is none other than Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft’s iconic saga of a secret war between the Assassins and the Templars.

After years of speculation and development talks, Netflix has officially confirmed that a live-action Assassin’s Creed series is in the works. Helming the project are two seasoned showrunners: Roberto Patino (DMZ, Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming, The Killing).

Both will serve as co-creators, executive producers, and showrunners for the series. According to early statements, Patino and Wiener are aiming to explore the core themes that define the Assassin’s Creed universe: power, violence, lust, greed, and revenge. At the same time, they plan to explore the emotional depth of human connections across diverse cultures and time periods.

However, Netflix has yet to reveal whether the series will directly adapt storylines from the video games or take a more original narrative approach. Casting details also remain under wraps, and no actors or actresses have been officially attached to the project.

The series marks yet another collaboration between Netflix and Ubisoft. The two companies are also working on Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, an animated film adaptation of the famed stealth-action franchise, scheduled to premiere in Fall 2025.

While fans have waited more than five years for this live-action Assassin’s Creed project to materialise, Netflix has yet to confirm a release window. Nonetheless, with production now officially underway, anticipation continues to build for what could become the next major hit in the video game adaptation landscape, and one that can help us forget about the movie adaptation.
