Helldivers Film Secures Lead and Release Window

Sony’s push to expand its gaming properties into film continues to gather pace. With multiple adaptations already in development under PlayStation Productions, one of its biggest live-service successes is now officially moving forward.

According to Deadline, the film Helldivers has secured its lead actor and a targeted theatrical release date.

Jason Momoa to Star, Justin Lin to Direct

Jason Momoa will headline the Helldivers adaptation, although details surrounding his character remain undisclosed.

The project will be directed by Justin Lin, known for steering several entries in the Fast & Furious franchise. With Lin’s action-heavy pedigree and Momoa’s on-screen presence, the film appears positioned to lean into the explosive scale that defines the game.

Helldivers 2

Helldivers follows an elite military force deployed by Super Earth to combat threats across distant planets. Players fight alien species and advanced mechanical enemies in chaotic cooperative battles, all wrapped in a layer of satirical commentary about militarism and propaganda.

The film adaptation is expected to draw from that blend of large-scale combat and dark humour, though no plot specifics have been confirmed.

Aiming for November 2027

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are reportedly targeting November 10, 2027, for the film’s theatrical debut.

There is currently no word on casting beyond Momoa, nor any indication of when the first trailer or promotional material will be released.
