Bluepoint’s Bloodborne Remake Bid Rejected
New reporting suggests that a Bloodborne remake was among the final projects Bluepoint Games pitched before Sony moved to shut down the studio.
According to Bloomberg, Bluepoint sought to pivot toward remaking FromSoftware’s cult classic following the cancellation of its live-service God of War project. Given the enduring demand for Bloodborne and Bluepoint’s track record with high-profile remakes such as Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, the proposal appeared to be a natural fit.
However, the pitch was ultimately rejected.
FromSoftware’s Role in the Decision
While Sony reportedly showed interest in revisiting Bloodborne, the remake would have required cooperation from FromSoftware, one of the key stakeholders behind the original 2015 release.
The proposal was declined, though no official reason has been provided. Industry speculation has long pointed toward Hidetaka Miyazaki’s preference to oversee any potential Bloodborne revival himself, should it ever happen. With FromSoftware’s development schedule already packed, the studio may simply have lacked the capacity to commit.
Regardless of the reasoning, the rejection effectively removed what many considered Bluepoint’s most commercially viable path forward.
A Studio Running Out of Options
The Bloodborne remake was not Bluepoint’s only attempt to secure a future.
After its live service God of War project was scrapped, the studio reportedly submitted multiple new proposals. These included a next-generation update for its Shadow of the Colossus remake and an original spin-off set within the Ghost of Tsushima universe.
Both concepts were declined. Without an approved project in development, Bluepoint found itself without a clear direction inside PlayStation Studios.
What the Rejection Means
For years, Bluepoint built a reputation as PlayStation’s remake specialist. Its ability to modernise beloved classics without compromising their identity positioned the studio as uniquely valuable within Sony’s portfolio.
The reported rejection of a Bloodborne remake underscores how complex first-party relationships can be, particularly when intellectual property ownership and creative control span multiple stakeholders.
With Bluepoint now closed, hopes for a remake of the classic remain alive among fans, but the studio once seen as the most natural candidate to deliver it is no longer part of PlayStation’s future plans.
