God of War Universe Set to Grow With New Sony Santa Monica Project

Sony Santa Monica developing new franchise in God of War universe. LinkedIn leak suggests Faye-focused game targeting 2027 release.

God of War Universe Set for Expansion

Sony Santa Monica Studio appears to be expanding the God of War universe with a new franchise project, according to information surfaced from a now-deleted LinkedIn profile.

As one of PlayStation’s most important properties, God of War has already undergone a successful reinvention through its Norse saga. The transition proved both critically acclaimed and commercially dominant, making further expansion almost inevitable, though it has not always been smooth sailing.

LinkedIn Listing Hints at New Franchise

The information came from a supposed Senior Writer at the studio, who stated involvement in “shaping the narrative vision and creative direction for a new franchise within the God of War universe.” The work reportedly spanned from 2020 to 2025 and included the creation of original characters, stories and extended lore.

The profile was removed shortly after being widely shared on ResetEra forums, but not before sparking extensive discussion among fans.

Not a New IP, But Something Different

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier responded to the circulating details, suggesting that the project aligns with earlier comments he made about Sony Santa Monica working on something that is not a completely new intellectual property, yet distinct enough to feel like one.

Faye God of War

If accurate, the studio may be building a standalone narrative branch within the God of War mythology rather than continuing Kratos’ central arc directly.

Following the leak, noted leaker NateTheHate claimed the project could centre on Faye, Kratos’ wife in the Norse saga. According to him, the game would adopt a more action-driven structure and potentially target a 2027 release window.

These claims remain unverified, and Sony Santa Monica has not issued any official statement regarding the project.

Expansion Amid Industry Shifts

The timing of the leak is notable given recent restructuring within PlayStation Studios, including the closure of Bluepoint Games. Earlier reports suggested Sony was exploring ways to expand the God of War brand beyond traditional sequels.

Whether this new project ultimately focuses on Faye or introduces entirely new protagonists, the signals point toward Sony Santa Monica broadening the franchise’s scope rather than closing the chapter on it.

For now, fans will have to wait for official confirmation. If the studio’s track record is any indication, any expansion of the God of War universe is unlikely to be a minor undertaking.
