Resident Evil Requiem Gets Infectious with 5 Million Copies Sold in 5 Days

Resident Evil Requiem Opens with a Major Sales Milestone

Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem has surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide, reaching the mark just five days after its February 27 launch. That gives the latest mainline entry an immediate commercial win and reinforces how reliably the Resident Evil series continues to perform for the publisher.

It is another strong example of Capcom’s current approach to the franchise. Rather than leaning entirely on remakes or brand new instalments, the company has built momentum by alternating between both, keeping long-time fans engaged while still making room for newer players to come in. Requiem now looks set to continue that run, arriving with the kind of early demand that few horror series can sustain this deep into their lifespan.

The timing also matters. Resident Evil is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month, and Resident Evil Requiem‘s launch gives Capcom a major commercial headline at a moment when the series is already under the spotlight.

A Broad Appeal Hit

In its announcement, Capcom cites a few clear reasons for the game’s strong start. Requiem continues to use the RE Engine, which remains central to the publisher’s visual identity, but the bigger factor for players is likely how the game broadens its appeal without losing the core survival-horror feel.

Resident Evil Requiem

The game allows players to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives in real time, giving Resident Evil Requiem the flexibility to naturally broaden its audience. It also includes multiple difficulty settings, making it easier for newcomers to approach while still leaving room for series veterans who want a harsher experience.

That balance between accessibility and tension has become increasingly important in modern horror releases, especially when a franchise is trying to maintain its identity while expanding its audience.

Requiem also entered the market with strong pre-release visibility, including a well-received showing at Gamescom 2025, where it picked up four awards. That kind of event traction does not guarantee launch sales on its own, but it clearly helped keep the game in front of players heading into release.

A Fast Start for 2026

Early PC numbers have also underlined the strength of the launch. Resident Evil Requiem set a new franchise high on Steam, peaking at 344,214 concurrent players, which adds further weight to Capcom’s wider push on PC alongside console. It also suggests that Requiem is reaching multiple parts of the audience rather than relying on a single platform.

The bigger question now is how long that momentum holds. The 5 million figure is a strong opening statement, but the next test is whether Resident Evil Requiem can sustain sales and conversation beyond launch week. Even so, this is already a meaningful result for Capcom, and one that positions the horror title as one of the publisher’s major success stories of 2026 so far.
