Maneater 2 Takes Its Shark RPG Chaos to Neptune’s Kingdom
Just when humanity thought it was safe to build another ridiculously expensive attraction beside the ocean, Tripwire Interactive has revealed Maneater 2. Announced during the latest State of Play, the sequel to 2020’s open-world shark action RPG is being developed alongside Demiurge Studios and will launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
The original Maneater and its Truth Quest expansion have attracted more than 20 million players, and the sequel is once again built around a straightforward power fantasy: ea almost everything unfortunate enough to share the water with you.
This time, however, the buffet is located inside an extremely expensive theme park.
Maneater 2 Turns a Luxury Resort Into a Shark Playground
Neptune’s Kingdom is a five-star private island resort inspired by the grandeur of Ancient Rome, combining enormous attractions, luxury facilities and highly questionable marine research.
Players control a new female bull shark trapped within the park during an invite-only preview event attended by influencers, media figures and other exceptionally convenient food sources. Escaping means exploring the entire aquatic sandbox while gradually tearing apart the resort hiding above it.
The problem is that Neptune’s Kingdom has been experimenting with its surrounding ecosystem. Its scientists have manipulated different regions to support environments ranging from tropical waters to Arctic and volcanic biomes, while genetic research has produced increasingly unusual marine life. Tripwire even teases gigantic mutated creatures, including a crab reportedly comparable in size to a luxury SUV.

Genetic Mutations Return With More Ways to Evolve
The shark will naturally get to benefit from some of that irresponsible science. Five different genetic modifications have already been teased, continuing the original game’s evolution system and allowing players to change how their predator fights and survives.
Neptune’s Kingdom itself will contain wildlife including pufferfish, jumbo crabs, piranhas and groupers, alongside more dangerous apex predators and human-operated underwater threats.
Returning narrator Chris Parnell will once again voice disgraced reality television personality Trip Westhaven, offering commentary as the shark works its way through the park.
Unreal Engine 5 Powers Maneater 2
Maneater 2 also marks the series’ move to Unreal Engine 5. Tripwire says the new technology allows sunlight to diffuse more naturally through the water, while improved NPC behaviour should create more convincing relationships between predators and prey within each ecosystem.
That should help Neptune’s Kingdom feel more alive before players inevitably turn large portions of it red. Tripwire and Demiurge have yet to reveal a specific release date, but Maneater 2 is scheduled to launch sometime in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. For the guests attending Neptune’s Kingdom’s grand preview, that is presumably still far too soon.
