Slay the Spire 2 Enters Early Access on Steam

Mega Crit has released Slay the Spire 2 in Early Access on PC via Steam, kicking off the long-awaited follow-up to one of indie gaming’s defining roguelike deckbuilders. The sequel sticks to the same core appeal of drafting cards, building synergies, and surviving unpredictable climbs, but it is also clearly pitched as more than a simple content expansion.

A new launch trailer accompanied the Early Access release, highlighting the sequel’s refreshed presentation, new combat wrinkles, and familiar faces returning to the Spire.

New Characters, Reworked Classics, and More to Learn

Slay the Spire 2 expands the roster with new playable characters while also reworking returning favourites to create fresh decision-making even for veterans. The Ironclad and the Silent are back with adjustments designed to open up strategies that did not exist in the original, while the Defect’s return will be the headline for players who built their identity around orbs and calculated scaling.

Beyond characters, the sequel adds new enemies, relics, and cards, all built around the same run-based structure that makes each climb feel distinct. The pitch is breadth and nuance. More combinations, more build paths, and more opportunities to pivot when the Spire refuses to cooperate.

Co-Op Changes the Entire Shape of a Run

The biggest system-level change is co op. Slay the Spire 2 introduces a dedicated mode for up to four players, with multiplayer-specific cards and team synergies designed to make collaboration more than just parallel solo runs.

It is a meaningful shift for a game that has always thrived on solitary optimisation. Co-op runs should change how players value risk, tempo, and resource use, especially when your choices can support allies rather than just yourself. For a community that has spent years theorycrafting optimal lines, co op adds a new layer of problem-solving where communication becomes part of the build.

Early Access Means the Game Will Evolve with Feedback

Mega Crit is also being direct about why Slay the Spire 2 is in Early Access. The studio wants feedback to shape balancing, pacing, and content priorities as the game heads toward full release. Players can submit bug reports and comments, and Mega Crit has said it intends to keep the community updated as new content and improvements roll out.

One of the new playable characters featured in Slay the Spire 2 is the Necrobinder, who utilizes her undead minion Osty in combat.

There is no firm date yet for when the game leaves Early Access. Mega Crit has outlined typical full release goals, including additional content, a proper ending, more modes, broader language support, and expanded compatibility. For now, Slay the Spire 2 is available on PC via Steam, and its next phase will be defined as much by player response as developer intent.
