GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT 2027 Plans Take Shape After Summer Game Fest

Following its Summer Game Fest reveal, Bandai Namco has shared more details about GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT, which will launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The new action game is being developed by Bandai Namco Studios and introduces an original universe within the wider Gundam franchise. Rather than directly adapting an existing anime storyline, GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT is setting up a new timeline, new characters and a new conflict built around fast cinematic mech combat.

Bandai Namco has also launched the game’s official website and official X account, with more updates expected as the 2027 release window draws closer.

Gundam Helix Leads A New Timeline

GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT puts players in control of RE-X, the protagonist and pilot of Gundam Helix. RE-X joins a ragtag crew of unsung soldiers as humanity faces a powerful unknown threat. Bandai Namco is still keeping much of the wider story under wraps, but the setup suggests a new fight for survival rather than a direct continuation of any familiar Gundam era.

Sophia has also been introduced as the game’s heroine. She is described as a mysterious girl who monitors RE-X’s situation, which points to her being closely tied to the player’s journey and the threats surrounding Gundam Helix.

Fast Mech Combat Drives Bandai Namco’s New Gundam Game

The main hook for GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT is its high mobility action. Bandai Namco describes the game as a bold new take on Gundam, with fast cinematic battles designed around speed, impact and large scale combat. The official site also points to melee encounters, enemy hordes, massive bosses and open environments.

That makes GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT feel different from several other modern Gundam games, especially those centred on arena battles, Gunpla building or tactical systems. This appears to be a more direct action focused entry, built around the fantasy of stepping into the cockpit and moving with serious force.

For longtime fans, the biggest question will be how much of the franchise’s usual emotional and political storytelling carries into this new universe. For newcomers, the original timeline could make this new title a cleaner entry point.

Bandai Namco Opens The Road To 2027

While GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT does not have a firm release date yet, the 2027 window gives Bandai Namco time to gradually introduce its world, cast and combat systems.

The Gundam franchise has always found new ways to revisit war, humanity and the burden of piloting powerful machines. This next entry looks set to approach those ideas through a faster, more cinematic action structure.

GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT launches in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
