Company of Heroes – Definitive Edition Moves to Early 2027

Relic Entertainment is celebrating 20 years of Company of Heroes by looking back at the RTS that started everything, while also giving fans a better idea of how its upcoming remaster will bring those battles forward.

A new Legacy Trailer revisits memorable moments from the original 2006 release while showcasing improvements coming to Company of Heroes – Definitive Edition. One important change to the release plan is also coming.

The Definitive Edition will now arrive on PC through Steam in early 2027, moving it beyond the previously announced fall 2026 window. When it arrives, the game will cost US$29.99 / £23.99 / €28.99, with existing Company of Heroes owners on Steam receiving a 30% discount.

Definitive Edition Includes Both Original Expansions

Relic is developing Company of Heroes – Definitive Edition alongside Blackbird Interactive, packaging the original game together with Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor. That brings three full campaigns, three additional single-player stories, four playable factions and more than 50 skirmish and multiplayer maps into one package.

The larger technical change is a move to a fully upgraded 64-bit platform, designed to improve compatibility with modern PC hardware without leaving the game’s extensive modding history behind.

Relic says community-created content from the past 20 years will remain compatible, making preservation as much a priority as visual improvement.

Improved AI and Modern Controls Update the Original

The visual upgrades include improved textures across units and environments, alongside revised lighting, shadows, water, reflections and greater draw distances. Quality-of-life improvements extend beyond presentation.

Vehicle reversing is being added, units can automatically reinforce at headquarters, and the AI has been upgraded with a new Ruthless difficulty for veteran players. Controls and the interface are also being modernised with grid keys, custom hotkeys and support for widescreen and ultrawide displays.

Company of Heroes - Definitive Edition Moves to Early 2027

The Definitive Edition sits within a wider anniversary year for the franchise. Relic has continued supporting Company of Heroes 3, while Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand recently took the series in a different direction with standalone wave defence and roguelite progression.

Twenty years after the original helped establish Relic’s reputation for cinematic, squad-focused RTS combat, the goal with Company of Heroes – Definitive Edition appears straightforward: make the classic easier to play on modern PCs without sanding away what made it memorable in the first place.
