God of War Laufey Serpent Bow Expands Faye’s Arsenal

We already knew Santa Monica Studios was giving Faye a very different toolkit from Kratos in God of War Laufey, and now another major piece of that combat system has been revealed.

Following the mysterious sword shown during the game’s debut, Faye’s second weapon is the Serpent Bow, a ranged option that can shift between precise long-distance attacks and much more aggressive close-range volleys.

It is another sign that God of War Laufey is not simply swapping Kratos for a new protagonist. Faye’s arsenal appears to be built around flexibility, giving players more ways to control distance and exploit enemy weaknesses.

Serpent Bow Switches Between Precision and Power

The Serpent Bow offers two noticeably different ways to fight. With Full-Aim, Faye can line up shots from range and target specific enemy weak points, potentially interrupting movement or stopping attacks before they land.

The bow can also be charged with up to five arrows, which can then be combined with Phrangue’s launch abilities for additional offensive options. Things change considerably with Half-Aim.

Making use of the DualSense controller’s sensitivity, Half-Aim effectively turns the Serpent Bow into a close-range spread weapon, firing clusters of arrows that trade precision for significantly heavier damage when enemies get too close.

Faye will also gain access to different arrow types, including rapid-fire, explosive and multi-target variants, giving the weapon room to adapt beyond simply switching between long and short range.

Scales Let Players Customise the Serpent Bow

The bow itself can be modified through items known as Scales, which alter its behaviour and allow players to lean towards different combat styles. Those upgrades also feed into a dedicated skill tree for Faye, adding another layer to the wider progression system.

According to new details shared through the PlayStation Blog, Faye will have her own armour system as well, alongside opportunities to customise her sword and magical abilities inside Everywhen.

That continues what we have already seen from God of War Laufey’s February 2027 reveal, where Sony Santa Monica established Faye’s story as a bridge into parts of the Norse saga that Kratos and Atreus never directly experienced.

Faye and Kratos

Sony Santa Monica has also released new screenshots, including another encounter between Faye and Kratos that appears separate from the scene shown in the reveal trailer. Additional artwork offers another look at Everywhen and the challenges Faye will face there, reinforcing that the mysterious realm will play a major role in both her story and progression.

Pre-orders open on September 29, with the Last Wish Armour Set, Phrangue Golden Leaves cosmetic and additional in-game resources offered as bonuses. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Dark Alchemy set, more resources, a Digital Mini Artbook and the official soundtrack.

God of War Laufey launches on February 16, 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
