Rainbow Six Mobile Shutdown Set for January 2027
Ubisoft is pulling the plug on Rainbow Six Mobile, and the free-to-play tactical shooter will remain playable only until January 15, 2027.
The timing makes the closure particularly striking. Rainbow Six Mobile had been running in select regions through a soft launch since 2023, but its full worldwide rollout came only on February 23. That gives the game less than 11 months as a globally available release before service ends.
Ubisoft has not explained why it made the decision, so there is currently no official indication that player numbers, revenue or operating costs were responsible.
“There’s no easy way to put it: we have made the difficult decision to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile,” the development team said in its official announcement.
Still Has Another Season Coming
Despite the shutdown announcement, Ubisoft is not immediately abandoning its remaining content plans. The game’s next season will still launch as scheduled next week, with the developer promising more information in the coming weeks on how the transition to end of service will work.
Ubisoft has not yet detailed what will happen to purchases, unused in-game currency or other player-facing services once the servers close. The team behind Rainbow Six Mobile will instead move onto what Ubisoft describes as other “long-term strategic projects”. No specific projects were identified.

A Short Global Run After Years of Development
Rainbow Six Mobile was first announced in 2022 as a mobile adaptation of the tactical formula established by Rainbow Six Siege. Rather than a direct port, it was built specifically for smartphones, with redesigned controls and pacing, while retaining 5v5 Attack versus Defence matches, Operators, and destructible environments.
Its road to release was lengthy. Soft launch testing began in 2023, and Ubisoft says the game accumulated 15 seasons across that period before and after its eventual worldwide release. When the game finally launched worldwide in February, it brought more than 20 Operators, familiar maps including Bank and Clubhouse, mobile-exclusive locations, and plans for continued seasonal updates.
Those plans will now end considerably earlier than expected. For players still active in Rainbow Six Mobile, the servers remain online through January 15, with at least one more season arriving before Ubisoft closes this particular chapter of the Rainbow Six franchise.
