Resonance of Fate Enhanced Remaster Gives the Cult JRPG Another Upgrade
Sixteen years after its original debut, tri-Ace has unexpectedly returned to one of its most distinctive RPGs. Resonance of Fate / End of Eternity 4K/HD Edition has received an Enhanced Remaster on PC, adding native 4K output, HDR support, frame rates up to 120 FPS, and another round of texture improvements.
Rather than replacing the existing game outright, Steam lists the Enhanced Remaster as downloadable content that requires ownership of the 2018 4K/HD Edition. That makes this essentially a remaster of a remaster for a JRPG that has never really played like anything else.
Native 4K and 120 FPS Push Resonance of Fate Further
Originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, Resonance of Fate followed mercenaries Vashyron, Zephyr and Leanne through Basel, a colossal machine supporting the remnants of humanity on a devastated Earth. Its real calling card was combat.
Rather than relying on conventional swords and magic, battles focus on firearms, positioning, and elaborate Hero Actions that send characters sprinting or flying across the battlefield while unloading volleys of bullets. Building Resonance Points lets all three party members combine their movement into Tri-Attacks.
The 2018 remaster already brought that unusual system to higher-resolution displays on PlayStation 4 and PC, but the Enhanced Remaster pushes the Steam version further with native 4K rendering, HDR and support for up to 120 FPS.
Character and environmental textures have also been upscaled to produce sharper detail throughout Basel. Tri-Ace’s Steam listing notes that AI technology was used in the 3D texture upscaling process.

A 2x Speed Mode Could Be the Bigger Upgrade
For returning players, the most useful addition may have little to do with resolution. A new 2x Game Speed option lets the entire experience run at double speed, helping you move through exploration and the more repetitive stretches of combat much faster.
That could prove particularly valuable given how elaborate Resonance of Fate’s battle animations can become. Its gunplay remains wonderfully theatrical, but grinding encounters and repeated Hero Actions inevitably add up over a lengthy RPG.
The addition follows a broader trend of older Japanese RPGs using speed controls and other quality-of-life options to make returning to lengthy adventures less demanding, something modern projects inspired by classic PlayStation-era JRPGs continue to build around.
Enhanced Remaster Is Currently Confirmed for PC
The original Resonance of Fate / End of Eternity 4K/HD Edition launched on both PlayStation 4 and PC in 2018, but the new Enhanced Remaster is currently listed only for Steam. tri-Ace has not announced whether the improvements will also reach the existing PlayStation version or receive a separate console release. The Steam DLC requires the 2018 PC edition and isn’t a standalone purchase.
It is an unexpected return for a game that has largely remained quiet since its first remaster eight years ago, particularly when tri-Ace could easily have left that version as the definitive release.
Instead, Resonance of Fate gets another chance to show off one of the stranger battle systems of its generation, now with 120 frames per second and an option to make those guns fire through the adventure twice as quickly.
