IKEA Singapore and City Energy Bring Smart Gas Appliances Into Home Design
Planning a new Build-to-Order flat or renovating an existing HDB flat often means juggling furniture, appliances, contractors and infrastructure at the same time. IKEA Singapore and City Energy are trying to bring a few more of those decisions under one roof.
City Energy’s home solutions arm, Life by City Energy, has become the first partner to join IKEA Singapore’s end-to-end Home Design Service, allowing homeowners to incorporate smart gas hobs, cooker hoods, water heaters and dryers alongside their cabinetry, storage, lighting and interior plans.
The idea is less about simply selling another appliance bundle and more about deciding where everything goes before renovation begins. IKEA’s Home Design specialist remains the homeowner’s main point of contact, coordinating with City Energy on appliance dimensions, positioning and gas-piping requirements before cabinets and other fixtures are installed.
It expands an IKEA Home Design Service already aimed squarely at BTO owners, and follows the retailer’s recent experimentation with more specialised home solutions, including its YXSTABY gaming furniture collaboration with Xbox.
City Energy Brings Gas Planning Into the Renovation Process
The practical benefit is most obvious in kitchens and service yards, where appliance placement can affect cabinetry and gas-pipe installation.
City Energy’s existing guidance for new BTO homes recommends completing gas-pipe installation after wall tiling but before kitchen cabinets are installed, illustrating why leaving those decisions until late in a renovation can create additional work.
Under the IKEA partnership, the respective teams will instead coordinate appliance delivery, cabinetry installation, gas works and eventual gas activation, with technical checks and site visits arranged where necessary.
That could simplify a process where seemingly small specification changes can quickly create knock-on effects. IKEA itself notes that its Home Design Service can plan rooms and coordinate installation of its solutions with a homeowner’s appointed contractor, but does not perform general renovation works such as hacking or tiling.

Smart Home Technology Is Moving Beyond the Living Room
The partnership also reflects how connected-home technology in Singapore is increasingly extending into everyday fixtures rather than remaining centred on entertainment or security.
Life by City Energy’s offering includes IoT-enabled gas appliances intended to provide greater control and energy efficiency, while local consumer-tech brands have similarly been pushing deeper into household infrastructure. PRISM+, for example, has expanded its connected ecosystem into smart locks, automated drying racks and household appliances designed around Singapore homes.
City Energy says its 2026 data shows approximately 1 in 2 HDB homes using town gas also use gas water heaters, while its dedicated BTO journey already covers gas hobs, water heaters and clothes dryers as part of the renovation process.
IKEA and City Energy Packages Start From S$839
The expanded Home Design Service is currently available at IKEA Alexandra and IKEA Tampines, with several launch packages accompanying the partnership.
A Life hob and hood bundle starts from SG$839, while a Home Essentials Package combining a gas hob, cooker hood and gas water heater starts at SG$1,459 and includes a SG$150 IKEA gift card. Standalone gas water-heater purchases can also qualify for up to SG$100 in IKEA gift cards, depending on the installation.
Optional add-ons include a Rinnai gas dryer for SG$1,220 with qualifying packages, while a Küche smart oven is available at 50% off its usual SG$1,463 price.
For homeowners, the more meaningful proposition may ultimately be coordination rather than discounts. Bringing IKEA’s spatial planning and City Energy’s technical requirements together earlier gives BTO and HDB owners another way to treat furniture, appliances and infrastructure as parts of the same home rather than separate renovation decisions.
