Assassin’s Creed Remakes Are on Hold After Black Flag Resynced
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced may have successfully brought Edward Kenway back to sea, but Ubisoft is not immediately turning that momentum into another remake. After months of speculation about potential modern versions of older entries, particularly the original 2007 Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft has confirmed that no other remake is in active development.
The clarification comes through Ubisoft’s official Fall 2026 update, where Head of Content Jean Guesdon outlined what the franchise’s various teams are actually working on next. That follows the strong reception to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which successfully refreshed Kenway’s Caribbean adventure without losing the qualities that made it distinctive in the first place.
Ubisoft Says Its Teams Are Focused on New Settings
Ubisoft describes Black Flag Resynced as its first full franchise remake and says rebuilding older systems while balancing nostalgia with modern expectations taught its teams a lot. For now, however, those lessons are not being applied to another classic.
Instead, the publisher says its development teams are focused on the next wave of Assassin’s Creed projects, including titles players have not heard about yet featuring new settings and stories. Ubisoft has not identified those projects or provided release windows.
That does not mean another remake will never happen. The publisher says it remains interested in revisiting its catalogue and will keep exploring opportunities to bring older games back, leaving the door open without committing to anything in production.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe Will Resurface in 2027
One game firmly moving ahead is Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. Ubisoft says development is progressing steadily on what it still describes as a darker experience, though significant work remains. Its next major update is now planned for 2027, meaning players should not expect a substantial reveal before then.
The publisher has otherwise remained deliberately vague about Hexe‘s structure and release timing, but its inclusion alongside several unannounced projects makes clear that Ubisoft’s immediate priority is expanding the franchise into new territory rather than revisiting another older setting.
Codename Invictus Is Changing After Player Feedback
The multiplayer-focused Assassin’s Creed Codename Invictus is also still in active development, but its direction has evolved after Ubisoft invited hundreds of players into an early private Insiders Session.
According to the publisher, testers responded positively to the return of PvP multiplayer, particularly the maps’ verticality, parkour, teamwork, and ability to use different characters. The clearest criticism was that the early build needed more of the series’ defining pillars, prompting the team to adjust the project while retaining its multiplayer focus.
Ubisoft also directly addressed material circulating online, warning that information about Invictus may be incomplete, outdated or inaccurate while development and testing continue. For players hoping Black Flag Resynced would immediately open the floodgates for more rebuilt classics, that means some patience will be required. Ubisoft isn’t closing the door on its past, but its development resources are currently focused on Assassin’s Creed‘s next historical destinations.
