Leaks Point to New God of War Greek Side Story Instead of Remaster

What happens to Kratos after God of War: Ragnarök? Fans have been eager to find out, but it seems they will have to wait longer, as Santa Monica Studio has shown no signs of revealing their next steps. Amidst this silence, rumours and speculation have emerged suggesting that the first-party Sony developer is planning to bring Kratos back to Greece. While many assumed this would be in the form of a remaster, a well-known source of information has shared a different perspective.

The latest news comes via Jeff Grubb, a reliable insider known for his accurate gaming industry predictions and info drops. In a recent social media post, Grubb shared a God of War rumour that is sure to spark excitement among fans.

Rather than confirming the existence of a God of War remaster, Grubb’s sources actually refute the claim. According to what he has heard, in celebration of the franchise’s 20th anniversary, Kratos will indeed return to Greece — but not through a remastered trilogy. Instead, Santa Monica Studio is reportedly working on an entirely new side project set in the Greek era of God of War. Even more intriguing, this project is expected to be released in 2025.

Unfortunately, Grubb did not provide further details about the nature of this side project. It remains unclear whether it will be a full-fledged video game or if the story will be told through another medium. There is also no confirmation on whether it will serve as a prequel to Kratos’ journey or explore his actions after the events of Ragnarök.

Meanwhile, Sony has already begun celebrating God of War’s 20th anniversary with various offerings, including cosmetic content for Ragnarök, new avatars, and an art exhibition. Fans will have to wait and see what Sony Santa Monica has in store for Kratos’ return to Greece, if that is really the case.
