IKEA Xbox YXSTABY Singapore Collection Starts From SG$19.90

Gaming furniture does not always have to involve enormous racing-style chairs, aggressive angles and enough RGB lighting to illuminate an entire room. IKEA and Xbox are taking a rather different approach with YXSTABY, a new nine-piece gaming collection arriving in Singapore this October, combining recognisable design elements with furniture and accessories intended to work even when nobody is playing.

SavePoint Gaming was also invited down to IKEA ahead of the launch to see the collection in person, including its wonderfully strange thumbstick stool, movable TV stand, lounge chair and smaller gaming accessories. The collaboration brings together seven designers from IKEA and Xbox, with designers from both companies paired up across the individual products rather than one side simply licensing its branding to the other.

It comes during a particularly hardware-heavy year for Microsoft, which has already celebrated Xbox’s 25th anniversary with new consoles and accessories and recently brought the premium ROG Xbox Ally X20 bundle to Singapore.

Yes, That is an Xbox Thumbstick Stool

The most immediately recognisable piece is probably the YXSTABY Gaming Thumbstick Stool, priced at SG$59.90 and available in black or green. Rather than merely resembling an analogue stick by coincidence, the designers returned to the original Xbox controller’s 3D files when working out its proportions.

The rounded seat and curved base let the stool move with whoever is sitting on it, while the familiar diamond texture and rubber grip around its base were carried over from the controller design.

The controller’s D-pad also appears elsewhere, inspiring a SG$19.90 cushion and a SG$19.90 stainless-steel platter. The latter transforms the faceted directional pad into something that can hold controllers, collectibles or whatever else deserves pride of place on the table.

YXSTABY Is Designed Around Shared Gaming Spaces

The larger furniture pieces take a more practical approach. A SG$129 Gaming Lounge Chair is deliberately lightweight enough to move around the living room, with a pocket underneath for storing a controller and an adjustable headrest. Its frame is designed to accommodate both leaning back and moving forward during play.

Meanwhile, the SG$149 Gaming TV Stand on Castors lets users bring a television closer to wherever they are playing, then roll it away again. Underneath storage holds consoles and accessories, while rear cable-management features keep everything relatively tidy.

That adaptability runs through the collection. An SG$39.90 laptop support with storage holds keyboards and other peripherals before being packed away, while the SG$49.90 monitor stand raises displays, adds storage underneath, and includes hooks for controllers or headphones.

Controllers Finally Get Somewhere Proper to Live

Smaller accessories address another familiar problem: where all the gaming clutter actually goes. The SG$29.90 controller display box uses mirrors to show a controller or collectible from multiple angles and can be placed horizontally, vertically or mounted on a wall.

There is also a SG$169 side table on castors, which provides internal storage and a dedicated area for charging controllers and other smaller devices. Felt sliding doors keep everything tucked away when it is not needed.

The collection therefore ranges from decorative accessories right up to useful additions that look and work great, with IKEA clearly trying to make gaming furniture feel like part of the home rather than a completely separate setup.

Get a Taste In Person

Over the weekend, IKEA is also running a series of programmes that are aimed at getting consumers and gamers alike to experience the YXSTABY collection the way it’s meant to. Starting October 3, interested visitors can experience the Family Gaming Room to see how it fits into your home from 12 PM to 7 PM, while a Quick Match Tournament takes place near the entrance from 1 PM to 7 PM. A bout with a pro player is also available from 5 PM to 7 PM.

This extends into October 4 as well, with the addition of a Cosplay Parade happening from 2 PM to 6 PM. Be sure to bring your A-game, as the last person standing on top of the leaderboards will stand to walk away with SG$1,000 worth of vouchers to shop at IKEA Singapore. It would appear that gaming is rewarding for everyone with the new collection.

The YXSTABY collection will be available at IKEA Singapore stores from October 2.
