Callina Liang Joins Street Fighter Film Adaptation as Iconic Chun-Li

Back in February, we got wind of news that the live-action Street Fighter adaptation brewing over at Legendary Pictures finally had a director to head up the project. With Kitao Sakurai at the helm, the next essential ingredient is the cast. As reported by Deadline, the fearsome Chun-Li has now been cast, with actress Callina Liang taking on the role.

The relative newcomer will join as the female lead of the movie, with the 25-year-old having cut her teeth on television in teen drama Tell Me Everything, before moving onto the big screen with roles in Bad Genius and Presence.

For now, how the Street Fighter movie will shape up remains a mystery, but it is likely to draw inspiration from the source material. With Street Fighter 6 currently being the headlining entry, that means a long history of fighting tournaments that bring together a colourful cast of characters and fighting styles.

The Street Fighter Family

Chun-Li’s origins paint her as an Interpol officer and a truly skilled fighter who can kick all opponents into submission with her powerful legs. She has been in all the games thus far and would be an iconic face that many would recognise, even if they are not actively playing the game.

Liang won’t be alone, as the roster of fighters had previously been bolstered by the confirmation of Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Andrew Koji (Bullet Train), Roman Reigns (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) and Noah Centineo (Warfare) joining the fight.

A Street Fighter adaptation for a modern audience has been in the works for quite some time now, starting back in 2023. However, with too many moving parts and scheduling conflicts, it has now landed into the capable hands of Sakurai and the teams over at Legendary and Capcom. It was slated for a March 2026 release, but has since been pulled. No new date has been set just yet, but the anticipation will continue to rise with this latest casting news.
