Fall Guy Director David Leitch Set to Tackle Gears of War Netflix Movie

The Gears of War franchise has gained real momentum in recent weeks, first with the remaster of the first game coming to more platforms and then with a new entry, Gears of War: E-Day. However, let’s not forget that Netflix is also planning a movie; now, we have a director at the helm. As reported by THR, The Fall Guy director David Leitch is in negotiations to bring the roadie run to life on a screen near you.

Having also directed the likes of Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, and Bullet Train, stylish action is most certainly not unfamiliar to Leitch. Producing alongside the director will be Kelly McCormick and developers The Coalition, with Jon Spaihts (Dune) penning the script.

Considering that it has been more than two years since Netflix obtained the rights to Gears of War, things have been moving quite slowly. The hope is that this new development will kick things up a notch. Together with the movie, there is also an adult animation series in the works, so expect plenty of blood, gore, and chainsawing to come our way if the film is successful.

The big question, however, remains. Who will be playing Marcus Fenix, our favourite musclebound convict turned hero? Wrestler and actor Dave Bautista has been the most vocal about getting the role, but there is also the possibility of a surprise casting that can catch us off guard. Getting this right will ensure a smoother path to success for everyone involved.

The adaptation of Gears of War sees the continuing trend of tapping into video games for viewing pleasure, with the likes of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, A Minecraft Movie, and the Sonic movies garnering huge success. There’s even going to be an OutRun movie at some point.

This is a good time to be a Gears of War fan, and with The Coalition hard at work on E-Day, this could just be the start of a new dawn for the third-person shooter franchise.
