Fantastic Four: First Steps Trailer Showcases Powers & Shalla-bal Silver Surfer

Two months after we got the first look at Marvel‘s first family, the superheroes from the past are getting the proper spotlight to shine in the latest trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Not only do we get a better feel of the world and the era, we also finally see the powers of the entire team at play, as they come face to face with the Silver Surfer and Galactus.

Set in the ’60s, albeit one that is more futuristic than one would expect, this is a world that absolutely adores the Fantastic Four. How this comes to be is unlikely to be explored, as the film is not supposed to be an origin story. That means that our heroes have already succeeded in protecting the world before, but a threat like Galactus and the Silver Surfer is on a whole other level.

Greeted by the Silver Surfer aka Shalla-Bal, we also got a good look at Julie Garner’s character for the first time. Staying true to the comics, the herald of Galactus is instantly recognisable to fans, and will be a nice surprise for others who were expecting the more commonly seen Norrin Radd version of the Silver Surfer.

With the warning given and the possible outcome laid out before the team, it will take everything for Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm AKA The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) to stop this threat and save the day in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

However, other than the danger present, we also learn that Storm is pregnant with Richards’ child. Could this be Franklin Richards, an utter powerhouse of a mutant that could be set to play a starring role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film? We already know that all four characters will return in Doomsday, but in what capacity is still up for debate.

If they fail to stop Galactus, it would then make sense for the team to seek refuge elsewhere. That could easily see them cross the Multiverse and eventually land in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those lessons learned from facing off against Galactus could very well come in handy when facing a world-ending threat like Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom as well.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will open in cinemas on July 25.
