With a portfolio filled with critically acclaimed titles, it’s no exaggeration to call Arc System Works one of the best fighting game developers in the industry. Known for its mastery in crafting engaging gameplay mechanics, paired with stunning visual and audio presentation, the studio has long been the gold standard in the genre. Now, they have exciting news for fans of their flagship franchise, Guilty Gear.
In a recent interview with Dexerto during Anime Expo 2025, Guilty Gear Strive producer Ken Miyauchi offered several promising updates that should reassure and excite the community.
Amid growing concern that Strive’s support might end following its fourth season, especially with the studio’s resources now focused on its ambitious new project Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, Miyauchi confirmed that development and support for Guilty Gear Strive will continue well beyond Season 4. He even teased that something “big” and completely unexpected is currently in the works for the title.
The Future of Guilty Gear

What that is, nobody knows just yet, but the most surprising revelation came when Miyauchi spoke about the future direction of the Guilty Gear series. According to him, Arc System Works is actively exploring the idea of expanding the franchise beyond the fighting genre, particularly into the realm of RPGs.
This ambition, he noted, may now be possible thanks to the studio’s acquisition of RPG-focused developer Aquria in 2024. While the idea remains in the experimental phase, various prototypes and internal tests are reportedly already underway.
In the same interview, Miyauchi also addressed the delay in development for Lucy, the main character from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, who is set to appear as a DLC character in Guilty Gear Strive. He explained that bringing Lucy into the game has been a complex process due to the need for ongoing collaboration with CD Projekt Red, the IP holder. Additionally, the development team was required to play Cyberpunk 2077 in depth to truly understand the feeling of being a Netrunner in Night City and accurately translate that into gameplay.
While Lucy’s official release date remains unconfirmed, Arc System Works is expected to unveil her during EVO 2025 this August.
