Arc System Works Unleash 4v4 Fighter Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Arc System Works has finally been entrusted with developing a competitive fighting game set in the Marvel universe – Marvel Tōkon.

What has Arc System Works been working on following the impressive success of Guilty Gear Strive? This has been one of the biggest questions lingering in the fighting game community. While the Japanese developer has continued to support Strive with new DLC characters, including the anime-original character Unika, the studio’s next major project remained a mystery. That is until the latest State of Play, where the team unveiled Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.

Widely hailed as one of the premier fighting game developers in the industry, that expertise can now be out to good use with a competitive fighting game based on the Marvel Universe. This isn’t a minor collaboration either.

The project is a result of a joint effort between three industry giants: Arc System Works, PlayStation Studios, and Marvel Games. The trio promises that Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls represents a new standard in fighting game development, unlike anything seen before, aiming to deliver a top-tier experience by leveraging each studio’s strengths.

With Arc System Works at the helm, fans can expect all the signature qualities the studio is known for: visually stunning graphics, high-energy soundtracks, and intuitive, satisfying gameplay mechanics.

But Fighting Souls is also taking a bold leap with its core gameplay design. Rather than sticking to the familiar 2v2 or 3v3 formats seen in other tag-based fighting games, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will feature a 4v4 Tag Team battle system.

While specific gameplay mechanics have not yet been fully detailed, the developers suggest that players will be able to either rely on one primary character supported by three assists or switch strategically between four fully playable fighters on their team.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is slated for release in 2026, though a specific launch date has not yet been confirmed. The game is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC platforms.
