Bayonetta Future Still Matters to PlatinumGames

The future of PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta has been less certain since series creator Hideki Kamiya left the studio, but president Atsushi Inaba has now offered reassurance that the stylish witch hasn’t simply been left behind.

Speaking to Famitsu alongside Shift Up CEO and Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung-Tae, Inaba said Platinum Games still wants to expand Bayonetta as a character and further develop the world around her.

He stopped short of confirming a new game, instead asking fans to be patient and see what form those ambitions eventually take. Inaba’s comments do not confirm a numbered sequel, nor do they necessarily mean the franchise’s next step will be another video game. His wording leaves room for Platinum Games to explore the IP through different projects or forms of media.

Still, it is one of the clearest signs that the studio still sees a future for the series, despite the recent departures of several veteran PlatinumGames developers.

Kim Hyung-Tae Wants to Work on the Next Bayonetta

The same conversation also revealed just how enthusiastic Kim Hyung-Tae is about the franchise. The Shift Up CEO described Bayonetta as one of his three favourite games of all time and spoke about the opportunity to collaborate with Platinum Games through the upcoming Stellar Blade crossover.

For that collaboration, Kim designed a new outfit called Black Tresses, imagining how the character’s fashion might translate into the world of Stellar Blade. He then jokingly asked Inaba to let him handle character design for the next Bayonetta game.

Inaba played along, suggesting that bringing Kim onto a future project could potentially help it sell extremely well, while also discussing the possibility of further creative exchanges between the two studios.

No New Game Confirmed

As entertaining as that exchange may be, there is still no announcement of a new game. PlatinumGames has only expressed its desire to keep expanding the universe, without committing to a specific game, release window or format.

For now, the character’s next appearance comes through the Stellar Blade collaboration, with Bayonetta-themed outfits arriving free for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC on November 6 in Japan and Korea, corresponding to November 5 in some other regions.

What comes after that remains uncertain, but Inaba’s comments at least suggest Platinum Games is not ready to close the book just yet.
