BitSummit PUNCH! Returns to Kyoto in May 2026
Japan’s biggest indie game festival, BitSummit, is making its return next year with an all-new identity — BitSummit PUNCH! Set to take place at Miyako Messe (Kyoto International Exhibition Hall) from May 22 to 24, 2026, the event promises to showcase the most inventive and boundary-pushing indie games from Japan and across the world.
The organisers — the BitSummit Executive Committee — have officially opened exhibitor applications for the 2026 edition, inviting developers to take part in what has become a global celebration of independent game development.
“High Impact”: A Theme for Indie Creators with Purpose
The theme for BitSummit 2026 is “High Impact”, embodying the belief that even with limited resources, passion and creativity can leave a lasting mark on the gaming landscape.
According to the organisers, the theme goes beyond efficiency and productivity — it’s about creating games that resonate deeply, challenge norms, and inspire both players and creators. The focus is on making a statement through an authentic, personal vision.
BitSummit PUNCH aims to encourage developers to embrace that mindset, pushing the boundaries of what indie games can achieve both artistically and technically.
A Global Stage for Indie Innovation
The 2026 edition continues BitSummit’s tradition of bridging Japan’s indie community with international audiences.
- Friday, May 22 will serve as a Business Day, offering industry attendees — including developers, publishers, media, and sponsors — an exclusive space for networking and B2B meetings.
- Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24 will open to the public, giving fans the chance to play and discover standout indie titles firsthand.
The event will also expand its hybrid presence, blending physical showcases with online coverage to help creators reach audiences beyond Japan.

BitSummit’s Legacy of Growth and Creativity
First held in 2013, BitSummit began as a small gathering of indie creators and fans, drawing just over 200 attendees. Over a decade later, it has evolved into Japan’s largest indie game exhibition, attracting over 58,000 visitors in 2025.
The festival’s influence continues to expand globally, with coverage across major media outlets such as Famitsu, Dengeki Online, and EDGE, as well as appearances at prominent industry events including the Game Developers Conference, IndieCade, and CEDEC.
Now entering its 14th year, BitSummit remains a cornerstone of Japan’s indie scene. On this platform, creative risks, bold ideas, and high-impact storytelling come together to shape the future of gaming.
BitSummit PUNCH 2026 runs from May 22–24, 2026, at Miyako Messe, Kyoto.
