DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations Opens a New Chapter for the Slayer

id Software has revealed Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations, a new campaign DLC launching on July 8. Announced during the Xbox Games Showcase, the expansion continues the Doom Slayer’s saga with a new story chapter built around betrayal, survival, and a brutal escape from purgatory.

The setup finds the Slayer wounded and stranded in a hostile realm, where progress depends on confronting hidden truths and finding new strength with the help of a mysterious ally. For players who wanted more from Doom: The Dark Ages after its main campaign, the new DLC looks set to push the prequel’s dark fantasy direction even further.

Chain Spear Combat Changes the Pace

The major new gameplay addition in Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations is the Chain Spear, a fresh weapon built around power, mobility, and mastery. id Software is pitching it as a new combat system rather than a simple tool added to the existing arsenal.

That matters because Doom: The Dark Ages already shifted the modern Doom formula towards heavier, more grounded aggression. The Chain Spear looks designed to give returning players a new rhythm to learn, adding another layer to how the Slayer moves, attacks, and controls space.

New Levels, Demons, and Mysteries Arrive in Revelations

Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations will also introduce new levels, deeper puzzles, fresh demons, and additional mysteries tied to the Slayer’s journey. The expansion appears to be leaning into both combat intensity and environmental problem-solving, giving players more than another set of arenas to clear.

For Premium Edition and Collector’s Bundle owners, additional content will also become available after completing the DLC. That includes three new maps, new demons, and fully upgraded new weapons, giving dedicated players more reasons to keep pushing through the endgame.

Ripatorium 3.0 Arrives as a Free Update

Alongside Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations, id Software is releasing Ripatorium 3.0 as a free update for all existing players. The update adds deeper customisation, improved pass code generation, and the ability to save and load personal presets.

Players who own the Digital Upgrade, Premium Edition, or Collector’s Bundle will receive Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations at no additional cost on July 8. Base game owners can purchase the DLC separately for US$19.99, or upgrade to the Premium Edition for US$34.99.

Doom: The Dark Ages is available now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 5, and Steam as an Xbox Play Anywhere title.
