Final Fantasy VII Revelation Release Date Set for April 8
After two enormous games and years of speculation over exactly where its rewritten story is heading, the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy finally has an end date. Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027, bringing Cloud and the party’s journey to a conclusion across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
The announcement closed out the latest PlayStation State of Play with a new trailer and an extended gameplay presentation, giving fans considerably more than a release date.
We already saw the scale of the finale during Gamescom, where Square Enix revealed the Weapons and expanded Highwind exploration. The latest demonstration goes much deeper into how those systems actually work.
The Highwind Opens up Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s World
The Highwind will serve as the party’s base of operations while also allowing players to fly freely across the planet. Rather than simply selecting destinations from a map, players can pilot the airship before parachuting down into different regions, picking up with a Chocobo once they reach the ground.
Piko also has a larger role this time. The Chocobo can grow stronger alongside the party, improving traversal abilities while even participating directly in combat.
Exploration becomes more flexible on foot as well. A new grappling gun allows characters to scale buildings and access elevated areas, while players can instantly switch between party members when moving around the world.
FITS Gives the Party Four New Combat Styles
Combat receives another significant addition through the Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear, or FITS system. Four specialised FITS have been revealed: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner.
Rather than merely changing costumes, each brings its own moves and combat functions, allowing party members to take on different tactical roles. The demonstration shows Cid using the Knight FITS and Vincent as a Summoner, opening up considerably more flexibility when constructing a party.
The familiar Synergy system is expanding too. New footage appears to show Cloud, Barret and Tifa combining for a three-character attack, potentially pushing the team-up mechanics beyond the two-person abilities introduced in Rebirth.
Your Party Choice Can Change Side Quests
Square Enix is also giving players more control over who handles certain quests. Specific assignments can be undertaken by different party members, with that choice altering interactions, scenarios and parts of the resulting story. A returning location such as Gongaga could therefore play out differently depending on whether Vincent, Yuffie or another character takes the lead.
Queen’s Blood is also back, this time with an expanded storyline centred around Red XIII and opponents capable of changing the normal rules of a match. There is still plenty Square Enix is keeping hidden, particularly around the gigantic Weapons and exactly how the trilogy’s increasingly unpredictable story will resolve.
At least the waiting now has a finish line.
