The success of Blue Archive as a gacha game is the result of the hard work of many individuals. However, tensions arose when several veteran developers left Nexon Games and established a new game studio called Dynamis One. This studio even introduced a new game project, Project KV, which was accused of being too similar to Blue Archive before it was ultimately cancelled. Now, the situation has escalated further.
The South Korean police recently conducted an official raid on Dynamis One. The reason? They have been accused of stealing development data from an unreleased Nexon Games project codenamed MX Blade when they departed from the company. Additionally, Dynamis One is suspected of leaking this data and planning to use it as the foundation for their future game development.
South Korean authorities have successfully seized the alleged stolen data and will carry out an in-depth investigation to determine whether it was indeed used in Dynamis One’s upcoming projects. Several key figures from the studio, including CEO Park Byung-rim, have been designated as suspects for violating the Unfair Competition Prevention Act.
Nexon Games has issued an official statement regarding the situation. They view this incident as a serious crime that could significantly impact the game development ecosystem in South Korea. The company has also expressed its intention to cooperate with law enforcement fully and announced plans to strengthen its security systems to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Project KV was announced as a nostalgic trip back into the good old days of “school action drama” with a release window of 2024. Set in Kapila, the City of Dormitories, the game would follow a cast of sword-wielding girls, and players will be leading the way as their teacher. While it was meant to be a new game, the many similarities to Blue Archive likely contributed to it cancellation, with everything related to it scrapped.
