Funguys Swarm Version 1.0 Launches This August
Stairway Games has confirmed that Funguys Swarm will leave Early Access and launch into Version 1.0 on August 25. The Indonesian studio, best known internationally for Coral Island, first released Funguys Swarm into Early Access on August 21, 2025. That makes the full launch almost exactly one year after players first got their hands on its mushroom-filled bullet heaven chaos.
It is also another notable release for Indonesia’s growing indie scene. While Coral Island gave Stairway Games a global audience through farming sim comfort, Funguys Swarm goes in a much sillier and faster direction, sending forest weirdos into battle against the Fire King’s flaming army.
A Bullet Heaven Built Around Mushroom Chaos
Funguys Swarm is a survivor-style roguelite where players control a cast of strange mushroom heroes fighting through waves of enemies, mutated vegetables, and oversized bosses.
The title itself plays on “fun guys” and fungi, which sums up its tone neatly. It is colourful, goofy, and built around escalating screen-filling combat, but it still follows the genre’s familiar loop of surviving long enough to stack upgrades, unlock stronger builds, and push deeper into increasingly chaotic runs.
Players can choose from different Funguys, each with their own playstyle and abilities. Mid-run upgrades then let those characters snowball into far stronger forms, with weapons, pets, skills, mechas, and permanent upgrades feeding into the wider progression.
Version 1.0 Adds More Content and Progression
The Version 1.0 release is expected to expand significantly beyond the Early Access build. Stairway Games previously said the full version would include more characters, abilities, levels, enemies, balance changes, visual and audio polish, and community-driven improvements.
The current Early Access version already includes the core gameplay loop, multiple playable characters, biomes, abilities, and permanent progression through the Forest Sanctuary. The full launch should make that structure feel more complete, especially for players who prefer waiting until a roguelite has more content before jumping in.
PC and Console Launch Plans Are Expanding
Funguys Swarm is currently available on Steam, where it has received a Very Positive user rating from more than 900 reviews. Version 1.0 is planned for PC and consoles, including Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Players who already own the Early Access version should receive the full Version 1.0 update at no extra cost.
That wider platform push matters. Bullet heaven games often work well across both PC and console because the basic appeal is immediate: move, dodge, upgrade, survive, and watch the screen become a mess of effects.
Another Indonesian Indie to Watch
Funguys Swarm is not trying to reinvent the entire roguelite genre. Instead, it is leaning into a strong theme, approachable mechanics, and a playful identity that makes it easy to understand at a glance. For a crowded genre, that kind of clarity helps.
With Version 1.0 arriving on August 25, Stairway Games is giving Funguys Swarm a chance to reach a much bigger audience. Between Coral Island and now this, the studio is showing that Indonesian-developed games can move comfortably between cosy life sim charm and pure arcade chaos.
