1001 Threads of Mizan Brings Arabian Fantasy to Gamescom
Flying carpets are doing considerably more than getting heroes from one place to another in MBC Game Studio’s debut title, 1001 Threads of Mizan. Revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, the action-adventure draws upon Arabian folklore and the stories of One Thousand and One Nights, sending up to three players across a handcrafted fantasy world filled with enormous jinn and plenty of aerial exploration.
The new game is being developed by an international team with experience across studios including BioWare, Hi Rez Studios, Ubisoft Montréal and Bungie. It was also one of many new games unveiled during the showcase, all of which you can find in our Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 roundup.
Flying Carpets Are Central to Exploration and Combat
1001 Threads of Mizan follows three heroes, Yusra, Malik and Sufyan, brought together by the legendary Storyweaver Shahrazad. Their task is to rediscover the Mizan’s lost power before an ancient jinn king’s vengeance destroys humanity.
Getting there involves plenty of time aboard flying carpets. Rather than serving as a simple fast-travel mechanic, MBC Game Studio is making aerial traversal a major part of exploration and combat.
Players can rapidly move between the ground and sky, using their carpets to explore the world and confront colossal jinn. The reveal trailer gives an early taste of that scale, with the heroes weaving around enormous creatures rather than simply fighting everything from ground level.
Three Players Can Take on the Jinn Together
The entire adventure supports up to three players through drop in, drop out co-op. MBC Game Studio says the aim is to offer the scale and storytelling of major single-player adventures while allowing friends to experience the entire journey together.
That extends to the game’s large-scale boss encounters, where movement, combat and coordination come together as players tackle creatures considerably larger than themselves.
For anyone at Gamescom, the first pre-alpha demo is playable on the show floor and culminates in a battle against Nazjush, giving attendees an early taste of both its co-op systems and flight combat.
1001 Threads of Mizan Is Coming to Consoles and PC

1001 Threads of Mizan is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. MBC Game Studio has not announced a release window yet.
As a first project, though, it is certainly an ambitious introduction. There are plenty of fantasy action games competing for attention, but soaring into battle on flying carpets alongside two friends while taking on colossal creatures rooted in Arabian folklore gives 1001 Threads of Mizan an identity that is immediately easier to remember.
