Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 Brings Vashtorr to Gamescom
Auroch Digital and Big Fan Games have revealed that Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 will launch on October 14 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, alongside the first proper look at its main antagonist.
The announcement came with a new trailer shown during the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2026, introducing Vashtorr the Arkifane as the daemonic threat waiting for Malum Caedo and newcomer Nyra Veyrath. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is now also confirmed, though it will arrive on other platforms later this year.
Vashtorr the Arkifane Is Boltgun 2’s Main Threat
The sequel begins with Ultramarine Malum Caedo and Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath investigating reports of increased Chaos activity in an isolated star system. Unfortunately for them, Vashtorr has considerably larger plans.
The daemonic demigod awakens an enormous machine buried at the heart of a planet, triggering an explosion that destroys much of the surrounding Imperial fleet. Caedo and Veyrath are subsequently forced to move between worlds, purging the corruption feeding Vashtorr’s machinery before attempting to banish him back into the Warp.
Vashtorr is associated with invention, industry, and horrifying daemonic machinery within the wider Warhammer 40,000 universe, making him a suitably unpleasant fit for the exaggerated retro-carnage of Boltgun.
Mick Gordon Joins Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2
The Gamescom trailer also provides the first taste of an original track composed for the sequel by Mick Gordon. Gordon is best known for his work on DOOM, DOOM Eternal and Wolfenstein: The New Order, making his involvement especially fitting for a game so openly inspired by the aggressive first-person shooters of the 1990s.
He is joining Boltgun 2 as a guest composer, with the new trailer pairing his music with plenty of strafing, gunfire and exploding Chaos forces.
More Weapons and Enemies Are Coming
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 picks up directly from the ending of the original game, retaining its retro FPS presentation while expanding its campaign. Both Caedo and Veyrath are playable, while returning enemies such as Nurglings and Chaos Cultists are joined by new threats including Bloodletters and their heavily armoured Juggernauts.
Auroch Digital is also promising a wider weapon selection and greater enemy variety while keeping the speed and relentless combat that defined the first game.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 launches digitally on October 14 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Nintendo Switch 2 follows later this year.
