Ghost of Yotei Reaffirms 2025 Release, Set 300 Years After Tsushima

It has been radio silence since September 2024 for Ghost of Yotei, with Sucker Punch presumably hard at work creating its next big hit. However, thanks to some eagle-eyed fans, we now have more details about its story.

According to the official game listing on the PlayStation Network, here is what players can expect from the story:

300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, a new warrior – Atsu – rises from the ashes of her homestead.

Filled with fury and determination, Atsu will hunt down those responsible for the death of her family and exact her revenge. Every odd job and bounty will provide the coin she needs for her journey. But how she fights, survives, and evolves the legend of the Ghost, will be up to you.

A revenge story can always deliver plenty of thrills and spills, but one involving family is going to feel much more personal and likely engaging. The other intriguing detail is that of Atsu having to finance her journey of justice, which could see money play a significant role compared to Ghost of Tsushima.

Hunting bounties in Ghost of Yotei already sounds exciting, and it definitely aligns with what the team is trying to do when it comes to the open world. More interesting things to do, and less repetition will help, especially when it is against the backdrop of lands surrounding Mount Yotei, where “sprawling grasslands, icy tundras, and unexpected dangers” await.

Perhaps most importantly, the listing commits to the 2025 release window, which means that Ghost of Yotei will be in our hands within the next eight months. Of course, there is every possibility that the game might be delayed, but for now, we have hope.

Sucker Punch will likely start sharing more details about the game in the coming months, and that ramp up will lead us towards its eventual launch on the PlayStation 5.
