God of War Laufey Release Window Rumour Points to February or March

God of War Laufey became one of the biggest surprises of the summer gaming season, giving PlayStation fans a long look at Faye’s own adventure after years of speculation about where the franchise could go next.

Revealed during PlayStation’s June State of Play, the game immediately stood out because it does not simply return to Kratos as the main focus. Instead, Sony Santa Monica is putting Laufey, better known as Faye, at the centre of a new PlayStation 5 story set within the Everywhen, an afterlife of the gods where powerful figures from different mythologies fight for control.

Sony has not announced an official release date for God of War Laufey. However, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier has now suggested that a February or March 2027 release would not surprise him, adding more weight to growing speculation that Faye’s story may arrive sooner than expected.

God of War Laufey Already Looks Deep Into Development

One reason the rumour has gained traction is the state of the reveal itself. Sony Santa Monica did not show a short teaser or vague concept trailer. Instead, the game debuted with a lengthy gameplay demonstration that gave fans a clear look at Faye’s combat, traversal, world design, and supporting cast.

The footage made God of War Laufey look much further along than many first reveals usually do. Combat already appeared fast and readable, with Faye moving very differently from Kratos through a more agile blend of swordplay and magic. That level of polish does not prove a release date on its own, but it does explain why fans are more willing to believe the game could be aiming for early 2027.

Industry Voice Says a Date Could Be Announced Soon

In a recent video, Schreier discussed how publishers may be aligning their 2027 release calendars with the wider market. In that context, he said he would not be surprised if God of War Laufey is announced for February or March soon.

Schreier’s track record means the comment will naturally draw attention. If accurate, it would place God of War Laufey in a busy early-year window and give Sony a major first-party release shortly after the holiday rush.

Faye’s Journey Explores the Realm of Everywhen

For players who missed the reveal, this next entry in the franchise follows Faye after her funeral, as she awakens in a strange land and discovers that the plans she left behind to protect Kratos and Atreus are under threat.

To save them, Faye must fight through the Everywhen, an afterlife of the gods filled with dangerous magic and ruthless deities from across mythology. That setup gives Sony Santa Monica room to move beyond the Norse saga while still keeping Faye’s story emotionally tied to Kratos and Atreus. It also explains why the reveal showed a world that felt familiar to God of War, but was not limited by the same mythological boundaries.

Sony Has Not Confirmed a Release Date

At the time of writing, God of War: Laufey is confirmed for PlayStation 5, but it does not yet have an official release date. For now, early 2027 remains a rumour rather than a confirmed target.

Even so, between the polished gameplay reveal, the long development hints surrounding Faye’s game, and Schreier’s latest comment, many fans will be watching closely for a release date announcement in the months ahead.
