Hollow Knight: Silksong Remains on Course for Pre-Holiday 2025 Release

After months of speculation, Microsoft has officially confirmed the existence of the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, its handheld gaming devices co-developed with ASUS ROG. The device promises to deliver a portable PC gaming experience powered by Windows 11, aligning closely with expectations for a modern, high-performance handheld console. What caught even more attention, however, was the appearance of Hollow Knight: Silksong, one of the most highly anticipated indie games of the year, during the presentation.

During the Xbox showcase, a statement from Xbox President Sarah Bond sparked widespread speculation. The wording she used gave the impression that Silksong would be a launch title for the Xbox Ally, potentially dropping during the 2025 holiday season alongside the device.

However, this turned out to be a misunderstanding. The vague phrasing quickly led to confusion within the gaming community, ultimately prompting a clarification from Hollow Knight: Silksong marketing lead, Matthew Griffin. Speaking via Discord, Griffin confirmed two crucial details: Hollow Knight: Silksong will release before the 2025 holiday season, and it is not tied to the launch of any specific console or handheld device, including the ROG Xbox Ally.

Team Cherry, the developers behind the beloved Hollow Knight franchise, emphasised that Silksong is an independent release and should not be seen as a platform-exclusive or timed launch alongside new hardware.

The only piece of concrete and accurate information to emerge from the showcase regarding Silksong is that the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, allowing subscribers to dive into the long-awaited action RPG as soon as it launches.

Unfortunately, despite this clarification, Team Cherry continues to remain tight-lipped about a specific release window, leaving fans to speculate further. Still, the confirmation of an earlier-than-expected launch offers a glimmer of hope for a community that has eagerly awaited the game for years, cementing Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s status as a modern indie legend long before its actual release.
