Intergalactic: the Heretic Prophet Reportedly Launching Only in 2027

With the exciting lineup of games set to launch in 2025, the year is already shaping up to be one of the best for gamers. But, that has not stopped the industry from looking further into the future. For starters, we already know that The Witcher IV will not be arriving until at least 2027. Now, it appears that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the latest project from Naughty Dog, will follow a similar trajectory.

Having only recently unveiling its first teaser, which showcased its in-game visual quality and an atmospheric style reminiscent of anime classics like Akira and Cowboy Bebop, Naughty Dog’s upcoming game has not dated the game just yet, and a 2026 release looks like a remote possibility.

As for when that will be, both Naughty Dog and Sony have not offered comment; however, journalist Jason Schreier had some insights to share. Taking to ResetEra. Schreier mentioned that, much like what he has heard regarding The Witcher IV, he is confident that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will not launch in 2026. According to him, both games were presented as early-stage teasers rather than near-complete projects approaching the final stages of development.

Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing depends on your perspective. Having more time to bring their vision to life will ensure that Naughty Dog gets to work their magic, but eager fans may not want to wait that long. Either way, the fact that no official confirmation has been put forward yet, and there is no promise of a 2026 release either.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will put players in the shoes of the protagonist, Jordan Mun, in an alternate universe where space travel experienced a breakthrough in 1986. Finding herself lost on the distant planet of Sempiria, she will have to find a way to survive and escape. While many details remain shrouded in mystery, the game’s story is confirmed to revolve around a fictional religious institution, suggesting a deep and intriguing narrative similar to the studio’s other works.

The game is currently planned for release on PlayStation 5.
