Mario Kart World Available at Nintendo Switch 2 Launch for US$80

the Physical Edition of Mario Kart World Will Be Priced at $80—a Notably High Price Point by Today’s Standards.

Consistently one of the best-selling series for Nintendo, it comes as no surprise that the company has decided to launch the Nintendo Switch 2 alongside a brand-new installment in the Mario Kart series. An official announcement had been highly anticipated, especially after its first teaser was revealed alongside the console several months ago. And alongside the console launch details, we now know more about Mario Kart World.

Taking full advantage of the Switch 2’s enhanced performance, Mario Kart World will introduce an array of exciting and innovative features. One of the most striking additions is the increased player count — races will now support up to 24 players simultaneously.

But perhaps the most groundbreaking feature is the introduction of an open-world environment, allowing players to freely explore in a manner reminiscent of Need for Speed and Forza Horizon. Players can traverse this open world together with friends and even utilise a built-in Photo Mode to capture memorable moments.

The game world is also designed to feel more dynamic, featuring a fully integrated weather system and a day-night cycle, bringing a unique atmosphere to the racing experience. For those who prefer the traditional Mario Kart experience, the classic Grand Prix mode remains intact. However, instead of automatically transitioning from one course to another, players will now race through dedicated tracks that connect each course, adding a new layer of competition.

For players seeking an extra challenge, Mario Kart World will also introduce a Knockout Tour mode, which features long rally-style tracks. This mode comes with a unique checkpoint system that progressively eliminates the slowest racers, creating an intense and strategic racing experience.

There’s a downside to all these fancy new tricks, however. Compared to the AAA titles from other publishers, Mario Kart World carries a steeper price tag. The physical version will retail for US$80. However, the digital edition will be available at a lower price.

Mario Kart World is scheduled to launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.
