On Any Journey Steam Next Fest Demo Puts Friendship to the Test
After more than four years of development, FUNBREW GAMES is giving a wider audience the chance to try On Any Journey through its Steam Next Fest demo.
Designed exclusively around two players, the co-op adventure follows Kai, Mateo and Summer, childhood friends whose insecurities about being different lead them to make a wish and embark on a much stranger journey together.
The approximately 60-minute On Any Journey demo is available now on Steam, supporting local and online co-op alongside a Friend’s Pass. Steam Remote Play Together has also been enabled for Next Fest, which runs through October 26.
Cooperation Is Supposed to Keep Changing
FUNBREW’s central idea is that two players should not be asked to cooperate in exactly the same way repeatedly. Platforming, puzzles, combat, boss fights and arcade-inspired sequences introduce different mechanics as the journey progresses.
Players might need to throw, pull or push one another through a challenge, combine abilities to solve something together, or simply make life harder for their partner. The game also includes a Playground mode for experimenting with those mechanics outside the main adventure.
It inevitably recalls the constantly shifting co-op mechanics that made Split Fiction work so well, though FUNBREW emphasises letting cooperation and playful interference exist alongside each other. Visually, On Any Journey is similarly unwilling to stick with one idea. Hand-painted 3D environments sit alongside pixel art and arcade-influenced sequences, with different chapters changing how the adventure looks and plays.

FUNBREW GAMES Has Spent Four Years Building Its First Indie Game
The demo also represents a significant milestone for FUNBREW GAMES. The team began working on On Any Journey in 2022 and describes it as its first indie game, saying the lengthy process reinforced their belief that co-op games can create a genuine connection between players rather than simply giving them something fun to do together.
FUNBREW describes itself as a small indie studio based across Hong Kong and Tianjin, with two-player games at the centre of its development philosophy. Its wider goal is to explore how shared mechanics can bring people closer together, something that has clearly shaped On Any Journey from the beginning.
Player feedback is already shaping development. An October 13 demo update improved jumping and aerial control, co-op interactions, boss presentation and several collision and softlock issues ahead of its Steam Next Fest appearance.
On Any Journey Is Still Targeting 2026
FUNBREW has already taken On Any Journey through the indie showcase circuit, including selection for the PAX Rising Showcase at PAX East 2025 and an appearance at the devcom Indie Expo. The team will also be at the upcoming Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show 2026. The next step is turning that exposure into a finished adventure.
On Any Journey is currently targeting a Q4 2026 PC release on Steam, with the Steam Next Fest demo offering a sizeable first look at whether FUNBREW’s constantly changing approach to cooperation can keep two players working together, or happily getting in each other’s way.
