Planet Zoo 2 Gameplay Trailer Shows a Wilder Sequel

Frontier Developments has shared a first gameplay look at Planet Zoo 2 during the PC Gaming Show, giving players a closer look at the sequel ahead of its October 13 launch.

The new trailer builds on Frontier’s previous announcement, which confirmed fully aquatic and flying species for the first time in the series. Planet Zoo 2 is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with pre-orders now available across platforms.

Aquariums and Aviaries Expand Planet Zoo 2

The biggest visual shift in the gameplay trailer is the addition of aquariums and aviaries. These new habitat types allow players to build for animals both underwater and in the sky, opening the door to more varied zoo layouts and more complex guest experiences.

The trailer highlights the Scottish Highland Wildlife Reserve and several animals, including Red Deer, Masai Giraffe, Blackspotted Puffer, White-tailed Eagle, Great Hornbill, and Eurasian Beaver. They join previously revealed species such as the Grey Wolf, Sumatran Tiger, Hawksbill Turtle, and Toco Toucan.

Conservation Plays a Bigger Role

Planet Zoo 2 is also placing greater emphasis on conservation and rewilding. Players will be able to restore damaged environments, prepare wildlife reserves, and release animals back into natural habitats as part of broader conservation projects.

That gives the sequel a wider purpose beyond building the perfect zoo. Frontier appears to be pushing players to consider animal welfare, habitat design, education, and long-term sustainability as interconnected parts of zoo management.

Construction and Animal Behaviour Get Deeper

The sequel will retain Frontier’s familiar piece-by-piece construction tools, with thousands of scenery pieces, blueprints, and an expanded terrain editor. The goal is to give players more freedom when designing habitats, aquariums, aviaries, guest areas, and natural spaces.

Animal needs will also be more dynamic this time. Planet Zoo 2 features mood-based behaviour, meaning animals can respond differently depending on their current wellbeing. Food, water, enrichment, habitat quality, and environmental conditions will all play a part in keeping species healthy and active.

Players who pre-order Planet Zoo 2 will receive the Bonus Content Pack at launch. This includes the Toucan Eat Shop and Signage, three Unique Animal Donation Bins, and the Tiger Photo Stand In Wall.

A Deluxe Edition will also be available, bundling the base game with the Deluxe Upgrade Pack. This adds six extra animal species from around the world, along with exclusive animal signs for park decoration.

With aquariums, aviaries, wildlife reserves, and deeper conservation systems now shown in motion, Planet Zoo 2 is shaping up as more than a straightforward sequel. It is aiming to make the zoo feel bigger, more connected, and more alive when it launches on October 13.
